Step back in time
Allow us to grasp a 'step back in time.
Hundreds of years ago ancient people
believed that the sun travelled around the
earth. Their concept made sense at the
time; after all, the sun DID move across the
sky each day. As time passed, however,
scientists discovered otherwise; the sun
remained stable while the planets moved
around it.
BUT, the sun DOES move. Let me
explain. Among many other stars, the sun
belongs to a group of stars called a galaxy.
The.galazy we exist in is labelled the Milky
Way, is whirling around similar to a record
in a turntable. The sun is making a journey
around the, middle of the galaxy with a
rapidity of approximately 481,000 mph.
The sun passes about the middle of the
Milky Way once in approximately 225
million years.
The Milky Way even transports itself; it
and other galaxies, it is assumed, are
travelling around the center of the uni-
verse. • ' Tanya Neufeld, Grade 8
Skating Party

and put their skates on and went to it.
Some of the boys, Kevin de Jong and Kent

the students skated too fast, the two
„policemen skated them down.. After that,
they went to the school to have hot
chocolate and donuts. It was fun! Thanks to
the teachers for letting the children have
the afternoon off.
Thanks to everybody.

Our leader said while we were wallong,'

some trees that told us about how they
made maple sugar in the olden days.
People drilled a hole with a bit and an
auger on a slant and put a bucket
underneath to catch the sap. Now they
use a pipeline'. We then went into • the
evaporating house. The lady showed us
around. There was a finis% pan and a boiler
to make the ' sap into syrup. We said
goodbye to them for letting us Dome and
said thank you.
