Public Speeches
I interviewed Kent Campbell about the
speeches he has written.
Kent likes doing speeches but he said it
takes a long time to prepare one.
His favourite speech was "Girls". It was
his favorite because it was funny and the
girls in his class got angry from what he
said. Also his speech on "Girls" got him
the farthest in competition than any of his
other speeches.
Kent thinks that speeches will benefit for
him in the future because he will have the!
experience of talg in front of large
crowds for a period of time. He will know
what to expect and will not be as nervous.
Kent feels that speeches are necessary, he
says it makes a student write a story (part
of English), memorize it and say it in front
of a crowd.,
Here is some advice for younger
students who will be writing speeches in
the future.
Try to get as much humour in it as pos-
sible. A lively speech with lots of humour
will make an audience more alert and
Willing to listen. A speech with no humour
or excitement will turn the audience off and
will make the speech seem.to last forever.
Also use some expression in your voice
and with your hands, not too much or it will
be more like an act. Be relaxed and
natural. Choose a topic known to most
people'.
