Church bible study held
A Bible Study meeting of the Ashfield
Presbyterian Church was held Wednesday
morning at the home of Marj McLean.

turned home from hospital recently and is
improving nicely. Get well soon.
. On Friday 'afternoon Irma Henderson
had a few friends and relatives in for a
lovely lunch. They also viewed the many
lovely shower and wedding presents that
were given to her daughter and son-in-law,
Brenda and Gordon, who were married
recently. •
The W.M.S. monthly meeting of the
Ashfield Presbyterian Church was held
Thursday afternoon at the home. of Dorothy
Finlayson.
Charles, Mayme and Ken Wilkins had
some of their family with them, for dinner
on Thursday evening. "Three of the family
are celebrating birthdays. They are Jack,
Sharon and Larry. Happy birthday.
'Visiting with Dorothy Finlayson on the
weekend were her son and daughter-in-
law, Ian and Christina Finlayson of.

community. Mrs. Schoenberger has come

Barry and Betty Jones were in Cam-
bridge on Sunday to attend the 40th
wedding anniversary of Betty's aunt and
uncle, Bill and Marion Longdown.
Sherry Jones of Guelph, daughter of
Barry and Betty Jones, was at home for a
few days to study for exams.

Recent visitors with Arthur Haldenby
were his daughter, Marjorie Bennett, Mr.
and Mrs. Howard Bennett, Miss Elizabeth
Wall, all , of Toronto and Harry Wall of
Lucknow.
Relatives and friends from here attended
the 25th wedding anniversary for Mr. and
Mrs. Doug Haldenby at the Lucknow Com-
munity Centre on Friday evening. On the
same, night, a 40th anniversary at the
Ripley complex was held for Mr. and Mrs.
Mac Nicholson. We extend congratula-
tions.
Mr. and Mrs. William Stanley and Mr.
and Mrs. Al Irwin of Lucknow spent last
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Alex Percy.
Mrs. John Barr and Winnifred Percy
visited on Sunday. with Edna and May
Boyle.
Mrs. Charles Murray has invited the
Holyrood Women's Institute to her home
on May 9th when her sister-in-law, Elaine,
Mrs. Donald Fisher, will be present. Mrs.
Charles Murray and Mrs. Tom Biglow are
the leaders for the local !'4-H club. The
achievement day will be held on May 4 at
the Lucknow Legion hall with Holyrood as
the hosting branch.

was held at the diurch on Friday evening
last, beginning with a pot luck supper in
the Sunday School room. After the dinner
all gathered in the upper sanctuary for a
Most enjoyable program.
Mrs. Don Bushell, president, extended a
welcome to all and thanked those who had
made the improvements in the ,diurch
kitchen. Mrs. William MacPherson read
the devotions, a poem, the meditation and
a prayer.' The Sunday School pupils sang
with accompanist, Mrs. Bruce Bushell. A.
film on Korea was shown in keeping with
,their study book.
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bushell and Mrs.
William MacPherson delighted the audi-
ence as they sang in trio with violin music
by Don Robertson and piano accompani-
ment by Mrs. Bruce Bushell.
Hymns were sung throughout the
program and all enjoyed some games
before the evening was over.
Bruce nursing director retires
A Walkerton resident, Mrs. Bruce
Kenny has retired after serving as the
Director of Nursing in Bruce County for the
past 24 years.
During her years as director of nursing
Mrs. Kenny was responsible for the 14
public health nurses and registered nurses
employed by the county. She was `also
involved with the District Health Council
and local association, dealing with mental
health, during her career.
Milton McIver of Lindsay Township,
chairman of the County Community and
Health committee, said Mrs. Kenny had
showed "excellent leadership and sincerity
during her career". "She will long be
remembered in the health unit," McIver
said.
After 24 years as the Director of
Nursing, Mrs. Kenny said one of her goals
in the first yearof her retirement is to avoid
attending any committee meetings. During
her career she estimated she attended two,
or three ,meetings a, week:
She went on to say that like most people
who retire she now wonders when she
found the time to work. This summer Mrs.
Kenny and her husband intend to spend
four weeks touring. the British Isles.
During her long career in Bruce County
Mrs.' Kenny served under three different
Medical Officers of Health. The current
Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Douglas
Pudden, said Mrs. Kenny was responsible
for the program which has . been 100 per
pent of the children in Bruce County
receive immunization, shots.
Pudden said `Someone's going to need
big feet to fill her shoes". The county has
not yet appointed a new Director of
Nursing for the. County.
BOWLING
Men's high single was rolled by Gordon
Johnstone with 232 and high double by
Dave Swan with 423. Dave rolled two
games over 200: 220, 203. Bill Purdon
rolled a 210 single and a 361 double.
Gordie's double also was 361.
Kay McCormick was high lady with a
single of 217 and 210. Her double was 427.
Ladies' double over 300: Gerda de Jong
336, Agnes Farrier 326, Stell Tilbrook 320.
