further. This type of subsidized unit would
permit these people ,;to set their sights
higher," commented councillor Murray.
"These houses should be condemned.
but we do not have the power to condemn
them, at least not .for another year or so,
until the new property standards by-law
comes into effect, said Murray.
Council decided to request the Ontario
Housing Corporation to prepare a municip-
al housing statement to determine the -need
for subsidized housing. Council is also
sending letters to the surrounding munic-
ipalities who co-operate with Lucknow on
other services to ask them to conduct the
surrey in their municipality. The neigh-
bouring . townships should be „ asked to
conduct the same survey to permit a
sufficiently high enough response to
.indicate the rent supplement program is
warranted, said Cowan.
The survey forms with an. accompanying
letter. will be mailed to seniors and -tenant
families. They will be asked to respond to
the survey even if it is ,to say they do not
require assistance in paying their rent. A
reply saying I'm not interested". is a reply
that tells us something, said Cowan. After
the surveys are mailed a public meeting
will be held to answer questions and clarify
the reasons for"'conducting the survey.

board will look into the ramifications of the
proposed hydro corridor.
Tony McQuail says there could be as
many as 30 - 40 farms directly affected by
hydro towers.. The towers will not only
make farming difficult but will bevisually
bad for the countryside, he says. The
financial compensation for hydros use of
the land will be "fair' but he says farmers
shouldn't expect to . get rich if hydro ..

tion of farm buildings on absentee owned
farms. By destroying the buildings on a
farm, the absentee owner can reduce his
municipal tax assessment. The federation
fears this will leave fewer and • fewer
farmers tosupport the schools and other
services in the county.
The federation is also working toward
Farm Credit Corporation reforms and
agri-bonds. Agri -bonds have been sug-
gested as a way of creating low 'interest
loans for farmers.
The federation is also concerned that
fanners who own farms on potential hydro.
right of ways are dealt with fairly and are
adequately compensated if hydro towers
are built on. their farms.
Robertson said these activities have
depleted the federation reserve funds.
"The crisis is far from over. If the
federation is to continue its present strong
stance at Lobbying, additional funding is
imperative," said Robertson.
Voice for Life
holds meeting
The 11th annual Voice for Life dinner
meeting will be held on Wednesday, April
24, at 7 p.m. in the Presbyterian Church in
Wingham. The speaker is to be Mr. James
Hughes, president of Campaign Life
Canada.
Pro-life supporters are continuing their
picketing of Morgentaler's abortion clinic
in Toronto. The clinic is illegal and
candidates for the provincial election are
being asked by Campaign Life whether
they would, if elected, dose it.
The TV ads shown in March were
considered helpful in bringing pro-life
issues to the attention of the public. Dr.
Bernard Nathanson, the narrator, was him-
self,an abortionist but later became
coninced that abortion is the taking of an
innocent human lift.
The fetal models are in great demand by
high school health classes, public schools
and students using them for projects. The
McGoey films, Love is a One Way Street,
Should We or ,Shouldn't we?, Teenage
Sex, and Going Steady, are popular in high
school health classes.
Activities planned for the immediate
future include a pro-life bobth at the
Brussels Trade Fest and the annual garage
sale on the Canada Day weekend, hosted
again this year by Mr.' and Mrs. Harry
Sjaarda.
decides to locate the towers in Huron
County.
Mr. McQuail says he was pleasedwith
the number of land owners who turned out
for Friday's meeting. He says the Foodland
Hydro cornmittee has raised $14,000 but
'will need between $75,000 to $100,000 to
offset the cost of legal fees.
"I was glad to see the people coming
' out. It wasn't a huge response but it's hard
to get people to take a leadership role,"
says McQuail.,
