Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce
announced today that it will close its Auburn
branch effective at the dose of business,
Fliday, June 7. All - accounts will be '
transferred to the Bank's Goderich full .
service branch with customers also being
given the choice -of other nearby Cornavrce
branches in Blyth and Dungannon.
The Bank's Dungannon office will continue
to operate but will have a direct reporting
relationship to the Bank's Goderich branch.
"The decision to close our Auburn branch
was very difficult because of our long time
presence 'in the community. However,
increasing costs have made it uneconomical
to continue operating," said Mr. M. J. (Milt),
MacLean, Vice -President, Ontario Region.
"Our over lapping branch representation in
the surrounding area was also a significant
consideration in our decision," he added.
The existing staff complement at. Auburn
will be transferred to nearby branches.
Simultaneous with the announcement, the
Bank has sent letters to all customers
informing them of its, decision.
Kairshea institute will canvass for cancer society
The Curator's meeting for Kinlosh
Kairshea Women's Institute was held on
March 21 at the home of Mrs. Harry Lavis.
The president, Mrs. Leonard Clarke,
welcomed everyone and read ,Miss Piggy's
Guide to dieting which gave some unusual
advice. Mrs. Cliff Roulston read the
scripture.
Members were chosen to set up the fall
fair display ana it was decided that a $25
donation be made to the Ludcnow Agricul-
tural Society. The ladies who planned the
excellent musical program for the Pine -
crest Manor residents were thanked for
their hard work. Kairshea Institute will
once again be canvassing for the Cancer
Society in the coming weeks.
Mrs. Harry Lavis gave a thoughtful and
amusing speech on the motto, Tho' •we
have wrinkles in our face, we need not have
them in our hearts. Mrs. Lavis gave several
quotes that made you feel good about
yourself and the lines acquired while
coping with life's joys and problems. She
also showed a flair for telling a joke with
the following gem.
During the hill in the dancing at a
discotheque a girl impulsively declared to
her boy friend, "Let's get married George.
I don't want to wait until I'm 30 and have
wrinkles, bags under my eyes and a pot
belly." "W ell, " George replied, "If that's
the way your going to look at 35, let's
forget it."
Mrs. Etsie Houston, curator, spoke
about Lucknow doctors past and present
and some -of the situations and problems
they dealt with in their work. Mrs. Houston
had special words of praise for Dr. Mel
Corrin who was recently named Doctor of
the .Year.
Mrs. Cliff. Roulston gave •a reading
entitled life After Forty. Mrs. Elsie
Houston gave. the courtesies. Mrs. Bob
Gilchrist and Mrs. Jra Dickie ignored Miss
Piggy's dieting advice and served a
delicious high calorie lunch enjoyed by all.
Dungannon UCW donates crib quilts to hospital
The March meeting of the Dungannon
U.C.W C.W. was held at ,the home of Ruth
MacKenzie with a good attendance. The
Bible Study was taken by Bessie McNee
with the theme being The Lord is My
Shepherd.
The program on Stewardship was taken
by Helen Dawson. A skit entitled, What's
Your Treasure, was enacted by Karen
Roberts, Ruth MacKenzie and Willetta
McWhinney. A question and answer
period followed. Helen read, The Sugar
Bowl, a piece telling about finances and
how they used to be handled by the woman
of the household.
The president, Nora Saunders, conduct-
ed the . business part 'of the meeting. A
motionwas made and carried that $5.50
per plate plus tax be charged for dinners
catered, with extra charge for extra
requests.

given to Wingham Hospital.
Plans for the Thankoffering meeting to
be held in April were discussed. The
secretary's report and. treasurer's report
were read, also correspondence.
