A record Heart Fund collection in Ludurow
during February made it practically certain
that the Kincardine and area chapter of the
Heart and Stroke Foundation will meet its
1985 objive,'.' Wilma Make, "Heart Find"
drairman announced today.
The Heart Fund Canvass was made by an
army of. volunteers No. 22 throughout the
community. The total collection, including not
at 'home envelopes sent in thus far by
householders who were away when, volun-
teers called, amounts to $1,247.50.

benefit of an additional two acres in
production will be more thanwiped out.
Crop residues create a greenhouse effect
which protects the new plants from sand
blasting and cold winds, Traut said. By
harvest time, the residue is pretty well
decomposed but it has done the job by
then. The residue protects the seedlings
until the plants can provide their own
canopy to, protect the soil from wind and
water. A fanner has no problem going
through corn stalk residue with a soybean
header at harvest . time the next .year
because the residue is decomposed by
harvest time, said Traut:
With soybean residue, Traut says, the
farmer can follow the same procedure as
with winter wheat. Disc twice in the spring
and plant.
Traut described no till and ridge till
conservation practices, water erosion con-
trol structures including berms and
terraces, wind breaks including reforesta-
tion and field borders and crop rotation and
strip cropping.
Traut said the Ministry of Agriculture
and Food has been designated the lead
agency for soil conservation on agricultural
land in the province and has appointed 14
soil conservation advisors who will work
with farmers to implement soil conserva-
tion programs on their farms. Jane Sadler
