OBITUARIES Elva Susan Smeltzer Eva •Susan Smeltzer of Huron Township, passed away on F1'iday, March 8, 1985 in her 77th year, at University Hospital, London, I Ontario. Born in Huron Township she was the daughter of the late William Hooey and Susan Rutherford.v , • Beloved wife of Arthur Blair Smeltzer, loving mother of Flmez and daughter-in-law, Marianne of Huron Township, Mary and son- in-law, Jim -Mills of Weston, Iva Mazur of lbronto, Aria and son-in-law, John. Dahmer of Kincardinelbwnship and •affectionate grandmother of twelve grandchildren. She is also survived by tvvo sisters, Evelyn McDonald of Luclmow, Verna Finlayson' of Ripley and one brother, Ebner Hooey of Lucknow. She was predeceased by three brothers and one sister. She was a faithful member of St. Luke's Anglican Church, lumen for over 50 years and an adive member of the Anglican Church Women. The funeral service and committal was concluded at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Ripley, on Monday, March 11, 1985 at 2 p.m. by Rev. J. Francom. Pallbearers were Leonard Courtney, Bob Courtney, Cecil Huniphrey, Leonard Elms, Chester Ernmerton and Grant Collins. Institute enjoys Si. The Lucknow Women's Institute met in the Town Hall for. their March meeting. A delicious dessert and tea was served by the committee in charge, namely Edith Webster, Mabel Whitby and Mary Loth. . After the opening exercises, Ruth Bogues read a poem, Springtime Garden. Ruth chaired the meeting in theabsence of the president, Grace. Gibson. The minutes, of the last meeting were read by the secretary, Jean Whitby and adopted. During the business it was decided to give a donation to the • Luthnow Agricultural Society for the fall fair. Nictor Henry Gawley Victor Henry Gawley, a farmer in the Ripley area all of his life, passed away sud- denly in the Kincardine and District General Hospital on March 1,1985. Born in Purple Grove on October 7, 1904, he was the son of the late Emanuel Gawley of Purple Grove and Margaret Griffith of Kincardine Township. He married Wanda Smith of Pine River on October 27,1934, He is survived by his wife and his children, Velma Chadbourne of Kincardine Township, Marlene (Mrs. Dewayne Greig) of Elmira, and' Gladys (Mrs. Barry Johnston) of Kinloss Township. He is also survived by one sister Ethel Gawley of Ripley and one brother. Leslie Gawley of Powell River, British Columbia. He was predeceased by two sisters, Miss Ada Gawley and Miss Lettie Gawley. He was a member of the St. Andrews United Church of Ripley. The funeral was held March 5,1985, at 2:30 pm at the MacKenzie McCreath Funeral Home in Ripley with Rev. Glen MacPherson officiating. Pallbearers were Bert Thompson, Bob Thompson, Norval Stanley, James Brook, Donald McCosh and Earl Tout. Interment in Kincardine Cemetery. Patrick's program, members are to bring fast course and the members on the south side bring dessert. Edith Webster chaired the meeting for the program and gave a St. Patrick's reading. Mabel Whitby gave the, motto, Keynote of good citizenship is service to others. Mary Loth gave two readings, Spring Song and Springs Around the Comer. Mary MacGillivray played some Irish numbers on the piano. Edith Webster prepared a paper on New Brunswick, which is the Institute twin of Ontario. Mary loth conducted a contest and Ruth Rogues was the winner. Ruth Bogues thanked all who had taken part and dosed a delightful afternoon.
