Presents hydro design
The regular meeting of Kinloss council
was held on February 1 in the clerk's office
with, reeve Barry Johnston and all council
members present.
Dave Abbot of Ontario Hydro, senior
community relations officer in respect to
design and development re transmission
attended council and made a presentation
to show thealternative corridors for
transmission lines between Bruce Nuclear
Power Development and the London area.
Barry Johnston is authorized to be the
voting delegate for the proposed enlarge-
ment of the Maitland Valley Conservation
Authority and George McBride is to be the
alternate delegate. The enlargement is for
the most part located in Ashfield Town -
ship. The vote will be held at the Author-
ity's annual meeting, February 21.
Application for a building permit was
accepted for Larry Parker, part lots 1 and 2
R3 North Durham Road to construct an
addition to an existing barn.
The annual donation of $375 will be
made to the Wingham and District Assoc-
iation for the Mentally Retarded.
David Eadie is appointed to the Saugeen
Valley Conservation Authority for theyear
1985 and George McBride is appointed to
the Maitland Valley conservation Authority
for the year 1985.
Appointments to other committees re-,
main the same as for 1984 and in addition
George McBride is to be the second
appointee to the Lucknow District Medical
Centre Board.
By-law 3-1985 was given three readings
to extend the completion and termination
date of Bacpac which is the implementation
of a changed and expanded system of
Township records according to government
manuals.
General accounts for $37,581.06 and
roadways accounts for $19,534.78 were
approved. /
Ashfield council sets wages
Ashfield. Township Council met January
31 with the reeve and all members present.
By-law #1, 1985 was given three read-
ings and passed with the following wages
being set: reeve, $1,150; deputy reeve,
$1,075; councillors, $1,000, plus $30.00 for
extra meetings; clerk treasurer, $22,129;
Edith Simpson, clerical assistant, $150 per
month; road superintendent, $25,454; John
Nicholson and Gordon Saunders, $9.25 per
hour; Kevin Cook, $8.50: per hour; part
time operators, $6.75 per hour; casual
labour, $5.50 per hour; waste disposal
attendant, $4.75 per hour.
The following resolution was passed,
"That Allan Gibson be appointed to repre-
sent Ashfield Township at a meeting of the
Maitland Valley Conservation Authority for
the enlargement of the Authority, to be
held at Wroxeter on February 21, 1985 at
10.30 a.m. and that John Austin be an
alternate representative.
By-law #20, 1983, to close a portion of
Alton Street in the survey of Altonville,
Plan 7, was given third reading and
passed.
By-law #3, 1985, exempting lot 38, plan
136from subdivision control under section
49(5) of the Planning Act, was given three
readings and passed.
A building permit was approvc..i for a
broiler barn for Ron Burgsma, part lot 3,
concession 4, E.D.
NDP discuss membership
The 1985 executive of the Huron -Bruce
NDP held their inagural meeting at the
home of Norma/and Eric Peterson, Kincar-
dine. Plans were discussed for the up
coming dinner and dance with Bob Rae,
NDP leader, at Owen Sound 'on February
15. Norma Peterson, the nominated
candidate in Huron -Bruce, will be joining
other candidates front the area* the head
table.
Membership secretary, Tony McQuail,
outlined three approaches to membership
work for the year. Since the NDP will not
accept money from big business McQuail
stressed that the NDP relies . on its

sion, the executive decided to use a com-
bination of work days and individual mem-
bership calls. A' work day will be held in the
southern part of the ridingin early March.
Executive members for 1985 are Norma
Peterson, president; Fran Nowak, vice
president; Judith Bidgood, treasurer; Judi
McMichael, secretary;. Tony McQuail,
membership secretary. Bill Desmond,
George Dodds, Ramona Humphrey and
Paul Machan are members at large. The.
meeting adjourned after a discussion of the
anticipated provincial election.

Agricultural society sees film
The Dungannon Agricultural Society
held its annual meeting at the hall on
Tuesday evening, January 29. Twenty-nine
people shared a bountiful pot luck meal
and social tine. `
Following 'supper, Dennis Martin, from
the 0.M.A.F. office in Clinton, and his
wife were introduced by the president, Bob
McNeil. Dennis showed the film, Proud
Beginnings, a tribute/ to Ontario farmers,
past and present.
Jim Aitchison gave a few words about
past fairs in which he showed horses.;
Bernice Glenn read the minutes of the
last annual meeting and the 1984 financial
report was presented by treasurer, Lynda
McNee. The bank balance at the end of
1983 was 5129.17. Total receipts in 1984
amounted to 533,531.48 while expenses
were 533,549.36, therefore, the bank
balance as of December 31, 1984 was
$111.29. A copy of the financial report will
be posted in the Dungannon Post Office.
Bob McNeil reviewed 1984 events and.
achievements, an ever growing list, for
sure.
Advance prize lists for the Home Craft
Section of the 1985 Fair were distributed

The men plan to meet Tuesday, Febru-
ary 12 at the hall to prepare the horse,
cattle and crop sections of the Fair Book.
Dates were set for this summer's events.
The ball tournament will take place on the
weekend of June 28, 29 and 30. The Horse
and . Antique • tractor Pull, Barbeque,
Variety Concert and Miss Dungannon Fair
Queen competition will be Sunday, August
11. The following weekend, August 16 and
17 will be the Dungannon Fair. Mark these
on your calendar.
Mary Ellen Boel and Sandra Rivett were
appointed as auditors for 1985.
Howard Godfrey presented information
about the Mectron oil burner to increase
heating efficiency. A committee was
formed to decide the pros, and cons and
compile more information.
