OBITUARY
Isabel Margaret Macintosh
Isabel Margaret MacIntosh passed away
at Alexandra and Marine General Hospital,
Goderich on Thursday, January 17, 1985 in
her 98th year.
A member of St. Pauls Presbyterian
Church, Hamilton, she was born in Huron
Township August 8, 1888, a daughter of
the late Lachlan Maclntosh and Margaret
MacPherson, both of Huron Township.
She is survived by cousins in Scotland
and will be missed by her many friends:
Miss Macintosh graduated as a nurse
from Hamilton Genet.11 Hospital in 1910
and did post graduate work in New York,
and thenwas very active in her nursing
career in Hamilton. The last two and a half
years before her death were spent in
Maitland Manor Nursing Horne,. Goderich.
In 1933 the Canadian Nurses Association
appointed her to represent Jean Mance, : in
a nursing pageant in Paris, France, which
was arranged by the International Council
of Nurses. Jean Mance was the first nurse
to conie to Canada from France and started
the foundation for nursing, as a career for
women.
Miss MacIntosh was a director for six
years of the Convalescent Hospital; in
connection with the out patient department,
at Hamilton General.
The funeral service was held January 19,
1985 at 2 p.m.- from the . MacKenzie and
McCreath Funeral Home in Lucknow,
conducted by Rev. Allison Ramsay.
Temporary burial was inSouth Kinloss
Chapel, from where spring burial will take
place in South Kinloss Cemetery.

Florence' MacLennan - 'of Kitchener,
daughter of Rhettaa MacLennan, was at
home fora couple of days with her mother.
Sunday visitors,with Barry, Betty and
Sharlene ' Jones ere Barry's sister and
brother-in-law, James and Lenore McGill
of Thorndale, and friends, Larry and Mary
Kirk of Tiverton.
The monthly meeting of the W.M.S. of
Ashfield Presbyterian Church was held
Thursday afternoon at the home of Edith
Simpson. ' --
Jiim and "Cecil Webster of Waterloo were
home on 'the 'weekend with their parents,
Wellington and Kae Webster. The enjoyed
snowmobiling with their brother-in-law,
Atlee Wise of Richfield, Ohio: On Saturday
after lunch they left 'the house to head
north, and before they/ turned around they
reached north of Underwood. The boys
said there was more snow up there than we
had here.
On Saturday evening when. Atlee was
making his, evening call 'home, he learned
they shad more snow (2 feet) than we had
and also it was a lot colder there 8 degrees
Farhenheit, compared to our 23 degrees
Farhenheit here.'

their daughter, Barbara Wilkins in Paris

of Charles and Mayme Wilkins, washome
with her parents for the Weekend.
Occupancy high at Brucelea
Occupancy rates at the two Bruce County
Homes for the Aged dropped by one per.
cent in 1984, but rates will remain high.
Both Brucelea Haven in Walkerton and
Gateway Haven in Wiarton had occupancy
of over 97 per cent, says a report to Bruce
County Council.
Don Moore, administrator at Brucelea
Haven' said changes at the homes in the
past two years ..have resulted in more
extended care being 'offered. In 1984
extended care beds at ~Brucelea. Haven
were, increased from 68 to eighty-three.
Moore told ,county council in the future,
even more extended care would be
required. Total bed capacity at Brucelea
Haven is 156 beds.
Advances in medical care have created a
new type of patient who does not need
constant hospitalization, but requires,a
.level of care greater than normally
provided in a home for aged. said
Moore. To accommodate the need for more
extended care, the county, is promoting
increased staff education and specializa-
tion.
Moore also observed provincial subsid
les will likely decrease in ' the future,
putting 'a greater burden of the cost on the
municipality. A decrease would create a
system where the user pays a. greater share
of the cost.
'As for decreasing expenses, Moore said
'we're `'at the bones right now".
A program the county operates success-
fully for the past 12 years has been the
vacation care program for elderly members
of the community who are seeking. short
term care. The program is designed to help
elderly people who normally stay with
relatives, but need short term accommo-
dation when their relatives are on vacation.
Nine people took advantage of the program
last year.
