Children saw movies at Blyth Memorial Hall then Santa arrived to chat and pass out candies. Stratford Festival has huge surplus The Stratford Festival’s 1987 fiscal year has ended with a surplus. Details of financial state­ ments, presented at the Annual General Meeting on December 5, show an operating surplus of $726,984 on the season which ended on November 1, 1987. This is the largest operating surplus in the Festival’s history. It also marks the third consecutive year that the Festival has finished in the black. The $726,984 operating surplus on the 1987 season relates directly to a superlative fund-raising cam­ paign and to expenditures kept well under budget coupled with a Janet Amos Janet Amos, former artistic director of the Blyth Festival and a popular Blyth resident, has an­ nounced her resignation as artistic director of Theatre New Brunswick in Fredericton. The low prizes went to Kay Konarski and Edythe Giousher (playing as a man). The prize for the most lone hands went to Ruth Dougherty and Allen Shaddick and the special prize was won by Don Buchanan. At the Lost Heir party on Wednesday night there were seven tables in play. Winnie Vincent and Charlie Smith had the high scores. Edythe Snell and Harvey Sillib had the low scores. Alvin Snell won the special prize. Greg Beresford and Faye Dance will host the weekly Wintario Draw when it is televised from Blyth Memorial Hall on Thursday night, Admission is $4 and entertainment begins at 7 p.m. Proceeds from admission go to the Blyth Festival building campaign.
