members and their guests enjoyed
their annual dinner on December 3
at Blyth Memorial Hall.
The guest speaker was Rev.
Lorenzo Ramirez. His topic
“Christmas in the Philippines are
very religious, going to church
every day for a week before
Christmas.
In the Philippines they make all
their Christmas decorations, asitis
too costly to import them. They are
made of bamboo wood, tissue
paper, coloured cellophane and
glue. Rev. Ramirez had made two
beautiful ones which he brought to
show. He told how to construct
these beauties, how to fold and cut
the paper and glue together. Then
he showed how to make a tail for
them and fasten it on.
Their Christmas trees are sel
dom evergreen, because they are
too costly. They use another shrub
which they cover branch by branch
with tissue paper cut in long strips
and wound around.
Their food also is quite different.
ForChristmasdinner they have
roast pig. They likereally sweet
desserts. They only have apples at
Christmas as they have to be
imported and are quite expensive.
Janette McNeil of Dungannon,
decorated the supper tables with
beautiful Christmas table centre
pieces. Jeanette showed how to
construct your own table centre
piece and gave a few tips on how to
freshen up a table centrepiece
members already had. Members
then had the opportunity to buy
any Christmas decorations from
her beautiful display.
