Brussels Atom goaltender Jamie Smith looks in trouble as Mike Bromley of Blyth sweeps around him during a game in Brussels Friday night but Bromley was foiled on the attempt and Brussels came on strong for a 6 - 4 win. The two teams meet again in Blyth tonight. Blyth Atoms split games Sports Bulls defeat Wellesley for easy win BY RUSTY BLADES The Blyth Atoms split a pair of games last week as they over powered Elma-Logan 12-1 on Wednesday and lost to a deterrnin- ed Brussels squad 6-4 on Friday evening. Blyth scored three goals in the first period and another three unansweredgoalsinthe second period before doubling that total in the third while allowing a last minute power play goal by Elma Logan to close out the game. Chris Lee and Michael deJong played a strong game between the pipes while every skater recorded at least one point. Henry Bos living up to his nick name as “the Scoring Machine” was the high point man as he recorded the hat trick while also contributing three assists. Michael Bromley skated miles in this game as he also recorded a hat trick with some undescribable solo rushes while also assisting on two of Henry’s goals. Brian McNichol was the third member of the team to score three goals as he used his patented wicked wrist shot to perfection with his final goal being a short handed effort. Ryan Chamney picked up two goals, with one a power play effort, and also notched two assists as a direct result of winning face offs deep in the Elma-Logan zone. James McNichol scored Blyth’s other goal as he stuffed in a rebound. Blyth’s defence did an excellent job all night of clearing the zone and headmanning the puck to the forwards. Jamie Bromley and Jonathan Collins had two assists while Peter Craig added one. Elma-Logan scored the final goal of the game as Blyth skated away with a lopsided 12-1 victory. LOSE TO BRUSSELS Last Friday, November 20, Blyth braved the harsh realities of winter to travel to Brussels where they learned a lesson in the harsh realities of hard work. Brussels turned the tables on Blyth as they ou tworked and outplayed Blyth in a 6-4 victory. They played a scoreless first period before the red light lit up in the second frame as the teams traded goals throughout the peri od. The only player who seemed to have his skating legs for Blyth opened the scoring as Peter Craig made a rink-length dash and scored an unassisted marker. Brussels tied the score before Peter went to work again. Peter put on another show of puck control on another fine rush before passing to Michael Bromley who only had to tip the puck past a startled goaltender. Once again Brussels quickly tied the score only to see Blyth take the lead again. Brian McNichol sent cousin JamesMcNichol in on a clear cut breakaway. James made no mistake as he fooled the goaltender with a shot to the short side. Brussels came back again with two goals 12 seconds apart to take a 4-3 lead into the third. Just over a minute into the third Blyth scored to tie the game for a final time. Blyth’s fine rushing defenceman Peter Craig scored his second u nassisted goal of the game on another solo effort for Blyth’s final goal of the game. Brussels scored the final two goals of the game to skate away with a 6-4 win and hand Blyth their first loss of the season. This should bring the team back to earth as they realize the work that has to be done before they become a smooth skating, hard working and fine passing Team. Things should be interest ing tonight, Wednesday, Novem ber 25 as Brussels comes to Blyth where they will continue this intense rivalry. WRAP UP CHRISTMAS.
