The Southwestern Ontario Fun­ eral Directors Masonic Degree Team met in Blyth November 16 to confer the Third or Master Mas­ on’s Degree on Brother Neil Elliott of the Blyth Masonic Lodge, #303. New Scouting committee formed On Monday, November 16, Huron District President for Boy Scouts of Canada, Bruce Mansz, chaired a meeting that resulted in the formation of a new Group Committee for Blyth. This Group Committee is com­ prised of any interested person and it is their responsibility to provide liason with the sponsors, the leaders and the public; to have contact between the Blyth Sections and the Huron District Council; and to provide support to Blyth’s Beaver, Cub and Scout Sections by co-ordinating special events, con­ ducting fund raising, and provid­ ing leaders and equipment when needed. Results of the election for Group Committee are: Chairperson, Dave Cooper; Vice-Chairperson, Trish Thomson; Secretary, Jackie Lantinga; Treasurer, Pat Bernard. The Blyth Lions and the Blyth Legion will be joint sponsors of the Blyth Scouting Movement and each will have a representative on the Group Committee. Enrolment in Beavers this year is 17. Leaders Sharon Wilson, Diane Higgins and Connie Brom­ ley need two more leaders to make their program run smoothly. Cubs have 13 boys registered. Their leaders are Herb Shannon and Carol Gross. They also need more leaders. There is a potential of 10 members for the Scout Section if leaders can be found. Venturers and Rovers can also be offered as Co-ed programs for youth 14 years and older. Anyone interested in the future of Blyth’s youth or willing to volunteer their talents should contact a member of the Group Committee or attend the next meeting on Monday, December 14 at7:30atBlyth Public School. In the solemn ceremony, the degree was confirmed by a team of Masons from across Huron Coun­ ty, including Worshipful Master Doug McBurney of Wingham, and Chaplin Max Watts, Right Wor­ shipful Brother Don Dunbar and Right Worshipful Brother Cal Krauter, all of Brussels. Also in attendance were Right Worshipful Brother Norman Wil­ son of Goderich, District Deputy of North Huron District; Very Wor­ shipful Brother Fred Thuell of Brussels, Assistant Grand Organ­ ist for the Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario, along with 20 Right Worshipful Sirs, Very Worshipful Sirs, Worshipful Sirs, andguestsfromacrossthe district. The lodge was opened in the first degree for general business and election of officers for 1988-89, with the elected and appointed officers as follows: Worshipful Master Elect. Wor. Bro. The team was piped into the Lodge by Wor. Bro. Wilson McBeath of Ingersoll. Wor. Bro. Howson introduced Wor. Bro. Douglas McBurney of Wingham, whothenintroducedthe degree term. This degree was formed about five years ago to confer the third degree on a member of Funeral Profession entering into the Masonic order. The degree term then assumed the chairs vacated by the Blyth Brethren, proceeded to the degree on Brother Neil Elliott, under the direction of Wor. Bro. Douglas McBurney. Centrepiece of the activities is the Blyth Festival Singers Christ­ mas concert at Blyth Memorial Hall. The popular choir will present two performances of Yule- tide music at 3 p.m. and again at 8 p.m. Many of Blyth’s smaller shops will be open and restaurants will be open to serve the hungry shoppers. The walkabout begins at 1 p.m. and ends at 5 p.m. People Eleven tables of players took part in the regular Monday night euchre party at Blyth Memorial Hall Nov. 16. MabelMcAdamandKenMc- Dougall, both of Clinton, took the highprizes. Blanche Hoegy and Ernie Brown of Clinton had the low scores. Vietta Hoggarth of Londesboro and Cliff Hoegy had the most lone hands. Special prizes were won by Winnie Vincent and Ann Giousher. At Wednesday night’s Lost Heir card party Feme and Harve McDowell kept the top prizes all in the family. Ruth Dougherty and Joe Holmes took the low prizes. Dorothy Daer won the special prize. Mr. and Mrs. John Robinson of Trenton visited a few days last week with Stewart and Mildred Ament.
