Plans were under­ way to exhibit at Brussels Fall Fair. Mrs. W. Strickler introduced Mrs. Ross Knight who spoke about enjoying a marvellous group camp­ ing tour through the Australian Outback. The Knight’s and their 2 daughters also travelled through New Zealand. Mrs. Knight dis­ played beautiful photo albums of the many things they saw. Members were reminded of the Trish and Robbie McClure, Jenni­ fer and Darryl McClure, Darryl Houston, Kenny McCallum, Scot­ tie McDonald, Mark and Kevin Wilbee. Announcements were given out by Rev. People Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Cummins, Toronto, visited on the Sept. 20 weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Stevenson. Other local students receiving multiple awards at Friday’s cere­ mony included Brent Robinson and Jeff McGavin both of RR 4, Walton; Cherryl Smith of RR 3, Walton; Joyanne Van Vliet of RR 2, Brussels; and Elizabeth Boven of RR 1, Seaforth. Mr. Robinson won the Topnotch Feeds (Seaforth) Award for a student going on to higher educa­ tion in agriculture, as well as an ElizabethScottBursary, aSnell Scholarship, and an Honours Graduate certificate. Mr. McGavin was the recipient oftheSeaforth Junior Farmers’ Award for a student going on in agriculture; he also won an Elizabeth Scott Bursary and an Honours Graduate certificate. Miss Smith was awarded both an Elizabeth Scott Bursary and a Snell Scholarship; as well as both an Ontario Scholarship and an Hon­ ours certificate. Miss Van Vliet won the James R. Scott Communi­ cations Award, a Snell Scholarship and an Honours certificate; while Grade 11 student Elizabeth Boven captured the Maplewood Manor Family Studies Award; the Bob Blowes Art Award; and the Alice Daly McConnell Creative Arts Award. Carol Axtmann of RR 4. Walton; Ron Vercruyssen of RR 2, Blyth; and Ceryl Regele of RR 1, Seaforth each won both an Elizabeth Scott Scholarship and an Honours Certi­ ficate; while Manny Gomes of RR 3, Walton was on the Honours roll. Anne Robinson of RR 4, Walton, won a Bob Blowes Art Award for the highest mark in Grade 11; Veronica Glanville of RR 4, Walton, was awarded the Cana­ dian Parents for French (Huron Chapter) Award for the highest markinFrenchinGrade 11; and Nancy Godkin of RR 1, Walton, was presented with the Leeming Mem­ orial Scholarship for the highest average in Grade 9. Huron County Board of Educa­ tion trustee John JewittofRR 1, Londesboro, presented the Leem­ ing Memorial Scholarships at each grade level from 9 -12; while both Mr. Jewitt and Graeme Craig assisted in presenting graduation certificates to SDHS students at the beginning of the program. Jeff McGavin of RR 4, Walton, turned in the best overall performance after four days of competition at the International Plowing Match held near Meaford on September 15-19 to capture the Junior Plowing Championship. The feat made him eligible for the Canadian Plowing Championships to be held in British Columbia next September, and also netted him a $2,500 scholarship which he will apply at the University of Guelph, where he is studying for his Bachelor of Science. Mr. McGavin also won the Class 2, Group 2 championship |for plowmen under the age of 20] at the IPM. KEN R.
