Lisa, currently a student at Humber College in Toronto, accepts her award from Ward Hodgins, a science teacher at the school. Phone 52b-75H9 UCW sees play Miss Yvonne Bean of St. Thomas was in Auburn for the baptism of her nephew, Brett Bean, last Sunday at Knox United Church and spent the remainderof the week with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Bean. Mrs. Wilma Brawley moved from the village to Huron Haven on Saturday. Mr. Tom Haggitt returned home from Clinton Hospital lastweek after having surgery. Recent visitors with Mrs. Fran­ ces Clark were Mr. and Mrs. Burrill Williams of Bow Island, Alberta; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kienzle of Kettering, Ohio; and Misses Jean Houston and Jean Jamieson of Toronto. Mrs. Mary Blacker of Stratford visited Mrs. Lillian Letherland for a few days recently. Mrs. Henry Ferguson of Cham­ pion, Alberta and Mr. Donald Mallory of Kirkcaldi, Alberta, cousins of Oliver’s visited at the Anderson home. Mr. William Anderson of Newmarket also visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Anderson recently. Gordon Sisley of Belville, Mrs. Lawrence Nesbitt of Port Perry and Mr. and Mrs. Stan McNall of Welland visited with Laura Phillips and Ellen Johnston the past week. On Friday, September 25 a group of Auburn ladies had as their guest Mrs. Nancy Slater at the Candelight Inn, Goderich to cele­ brate Mrs. Slater’s 80th birthday. Congratulations Nancy from the Auburn correspondent. Mrs. Tom Lawrence of Auburn reports that she has forsythia and Easter lilies blooming in her garden. Al I boro Elevators Ltd. The General meeting of the Auburn U.C.W. was held on Wednesday evening September 23. The devotional was on “Love” given by Mrs. Maurice Bean and Mrs. Don Haines. The opening hymn was “Wonderful Words” and Mrs. Barry Millian was the pianist. The sermonette was given by Mrs. Haines. Offering was receiv­ ed and Mrs. Bean gave the offeratory prayer. She closed the devotional with reading from the third chapter of Eccelesiastes and stated that it might be good for every one to read that chapter and Church news Knox United Church Service was conducted by Rev. Dave Snihur on Sunday. There was a hymn-sing with Mrs. Gordon Gross as pianist at the start of the service and the children went down to Sunday School. Mrs. Gordon Gross was organ­ ist. Call to Worship was read alternatively. “O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing” was sung. Rev. Snihur gave the announcements followedby hymn, “SaviourTeach Me Day by Day”. Scripture readings followed and the prayer chorus sung. The choir sang the anthem “Seek and Ye Shall Find” with Lori Millian as pianist. The minister’s sermon was entitled “John - The Disciple whom Jesus loved.” The offering was received by Ken Ramsey and Murray Rollinson followed by off­ eratory response hymn, “Come Let Us Sing of a Wonderful Love”. The minister pronounced the benediction and the Benediction Response “Lord We Pray”, ended the service. the preceding chapter. A play, “Toys for playing, not fighting’ ’ was shown by Mrs. Ross Dobie. It showed that there is an increase in criminal violence. Five of the top selling toys are ones of agressive violence. It was a thought provoking play. Two excellent skits were then perform­ ed by Mrs. Jack Armstrong, Mrs. Barry Millian, Mrs. Jake Middel- kamp and Mrs. Dana Bean. A discussion followed and then the singing of “O Lord of Life and Love and Power” closed the devotional part. Mrs. Peter Verbeek opened the business with prayer. The con­ venors gave their reports. It was decided that new devotionals be purchased and that carpet be bought for the nursery room. Mrs. J. Kryzanowski and Mrs. Law­ rence Plaetzer served lunch and a social half hour was enjoyed. Silver Tops hold dinner Auburn SilverTops held their first dinner of the fall season on Wednesday, September 23. After dinner a short meeting was held with the new president Kay Lapp in the chair. A minute of silence was held for those seniors, in the Auburn Community who had passed away in the past year. Plans were made to attend the District Rally on October 14 and to entertain Blyth Swinging Seniors on October 23. Ethel Ball then showed pictures of her trip to Alaska this past summer. These were very interesting and enjoyed by all. The president thanked Ethel. It was planned to start the euchre parties later in October.
