Brussels Stockyards Sheep and lamb, stocker and feeder sales coming up The market at Brussels Stock- ards saw choice steers and heifers selling at barely steady prices with the heavy and fatter cattle selling under pressure. Cows and veal sold steady. Pigs were steady. There were 892 cattle and 537 pigs on offer. Choice steers sold from $88 to $92 with sales to $94 per hundred­ weight. Good steers were $85 to $88. A red steer consigned by Lome Forster of RR 1. Lucknow weighing 1240 lbs. sold for $94 with his total offering of 11 steers averaging 1217 lbs. and selling for an overall price of $91.59. Six steels consign­ ed by Frank Dolmage of RR 1. Seaforth averaging 1267 lbs. sold for an average price of $89.83 with sales to $93. One steer consigned by Groenberg Farms of RR 2, Lucknow weighing 1150 lbs. sold for $92.50. Sixteen steers consigned by Howard Martin of RR 3, Brussels weighing 1 159 lbs. sold for an average price of $90.89 with sales to $92.50. Eleven steers consigned by Doug Wagg of RR 5, Mitchell averaging 1237 lbs. sold for an average price of $90.29 with sales Farm Anita Bos tops show Anita Bosof RR3, Blyth, was the big winner at the Brussels Fall Fair and 4-H Club Achievement Day last Wednesday, taking three championshipsandone reserve championship in the face of tough competition from fellow members of the Hallrice 4-H Dairy Club. Miss Bos won the Champion­ ships in Senior Showmanship in both the Hallrice Club and the Senior Dairy Management project, as well as the showing the Championcalfinthedairy man­ agement project. She also took the Reserve Champion Calf in the Hallrice competition. Lori Armstrong of RR 2, Auburn, showed the Champion calf from the Hallrice Club, and took the Re­ serve Junior Champion Showman­ ship award, while Theresa Knox of RR 1, Blyth was the top Junior Showman. SharonRamseyofRR 3, Blyth, won the Reserve Showman­ ship in both the Hallrice Club and in Senior Dairy Management. Michael Pentland of RR 1, Dun­ gannon, showed the Reserve Champion calf in the management project. Jn the Brussels 4-H Dairy Calf Club, Donna Johnston of RR 2, Bluevale, showed the Champion­ ship calf, while Grant Martin of Ethel captured the Champion Showman award. In the Brussels 4-H Horse Club, Dean Vincent of RR 1, Belgrave achieved the highest mark, closely followed by Jennifer Sanders of RR 4, Brus­ sels. Darren Johnston of RR 2, Bluevale, showed the Champion Steer in Brussels 4-H Beef Club competition, while Brian Alexan­ der of Ethel took the Reserve Championship. The Champion Heifer award went to Steve Dolmage of RR 4, Walton, with Paul Dolmage of the same address taking the Reserve Championship. Open House at Clinton OMAF In celebration of Agri-Foou Week, the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture & Food office at 20 King Street in Clinton will be holding an Open House. It will be held on Tuesday, October 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This is an opportunity for members of the community to become more familiar with the local staff and services of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture & Food. One white steer consigned by Keith Johnston of RR 2, Bluevale weighing 1330 lbs. sold for $91 with his total offering of 16 steers averaging 1298 and selling for $89.24. A load of41 heavy Charlois steers con­ signed by Jim Simpson of RR 3, Goderich averaging 1297 lbs. sold for an average price of $88.81 with sales to $90. Choice heifers were $88 to $91 with sales to $93. Good heifers were $84 to $88. A heiferconsignedby George Blake of RR 2, Brussels weighing 1050 lbs. sold for $93 with his total offeringof22 heifers averaging 1147 lbs. selling for an overall price of $89.02. Fifteen heifers consign­ ed by Chaffe Farms of RR 5, Mitchell, averaging 1159 lbs. sold for an average price of $90.06 with sales to $92.75. A heifer consigned by Gordon Daer of RR 1, Auburn, weighing 910 lbs. sold for $92.75. Nineteen heifers consigned by Wayne King of RR 1, Gorrie averaging 895 lbs. sold for an average price of $84.80 with sales to $92.25. Four white heifers consigned by Alvin Grainger of RR 2, Wroxeter, averaging 1235 lbs. sold for $90.50 with his total offeringof 10 heifers averaging 1207 lbs. and selling for an overall price of $89.52. Choice cows sold from $60 to $64 with sales to $72. Good cows were $57 to $62. Canners and cutters were $52 to $57. Thirty to 40 lb. pigs traded to a high of $1.07; 40 to 50 lb. pigs traded to a high of .89 cents; 50 to 601b. pigs traded toa high of .90 cents; 60 to 70 lb. pigs traded to a high of .88 cents; 70 to 80 lb. pigs traded to a high of .86 cents. Choice veal sold from $90 to $99 with sales to $104. Good veal was $80 to $90. Plainer calves were $74 to $80.
