H-P Arts Council gets grant The newly formed Huron/Perth Arts Council has recently received confirmationofagrantfrom the Ministry of Citizenship and Cul­ ture. The grant of $10,000.00 comes from the new category, “Class Connections’’, under the arts division. This will assist the Arts Council with its plans to rejuvenate and expand the original Gallery/ Stratford box office tops Stratford’s “Art Pack" pro­ gramme, now entitled "Vision On - Arts/Heritage”. This project will produce a series of approximately 75 visual arts, performing arts, and heritage resource kits to be made available to schools and communi­ ty groups throughout the Huron- Perth area. Thegrantwillalsobeusedto assist in the hiring of a part-time project co-ordinator and resource person to continue the develop­ ment of this project, under the supervision of the arts education office of the Gallery/Stratford. The Huron/Perth Arts Council presently publishes a newsletter which features coming events of interest to communities in Huron and Perth. As well, the council is a network for contact between artists and numerous arts organizations in the area. At the end of the business day Sept. 16, the Festi­ val’s 1987 box office total for the season was $9,021,512. “This has been an excellent season for us, both the terms of artistic quality and box office success,’’ Festival General Mana­ ger Gary Thomas said. “It is a great tribute to the quality of the acting ensemble put together by Artistic Director John Neville this season and the calibre of the productions themselves." There are still six weeks remain­ ing in the Stratford Festival’s 1987 season with three productions running in both the Festival and Avon Theatres. “Cabaret”, "Othello” and "Much Ado About Nothing” continue in the Festival Theatre with “The Cherry Or­ chard", "Nora” and "Troilus and Gressida” running in the Avon Theatre. ALL SEATS ARE S2.50 MVCA plans colour tour The staff of the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority has invit­ ed all interested persons to join them for the third annual Fall Colour Tour, to be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, at the Wawanosh Valley Conservation Area. Visitors will be taken on horse- drawn wagon rides over the rolling hills of the property, to be followed by a guided hike through hardwood bush alive with fall colours. Later, they will return to the main building, where they will be served hot apple cider to end the day. The Wawanosh Valley Conser­ vation Area is located northwest of Blyth, two km. west of Highway 4 on Concession 6-7 of East Wawa­ nosh Township. There is no charge for the Colour Tour, and trips will leave at various times throughout the afternoon.
