Monkton boy's
death could
save other lives
The recent death of a 10-year-old
Monkton area boy may give two
Ottawa area children a second
chance at life.
Joseph Hood of RR 3, Monkton,
died after falling from the second
story of a barn on the farm owned
by his parents, Wayne and Mary
Hood.
The boy died at Victoria Hospi
tal, London, as the result of head
injuries suffered in the fall.
His heart, lungs and liver were
donated to two young girls, ages 8
and 10, at the Children’s Hospital
of Western Ontario. The 10-year-
old became the youngest person in
Canada ever to undergo a heart and
lung transplant.
Joseph Hood’s 12-year-old sis
ter recently played one of the
children in the Blyth Festival
Theatre Young Company’s pro
duction of ‘ ‘ Off Track, ” the story of
a teacher on a railway school car.
