Phone 887-6677 Walton Bantams win two championships The September meeting of the Walton Women’s Institute was held in the hall on Wednesday evening. Marion Godkin, first vice-presi­ dent opened the meeting with the Institute Ode, the Mary Stewart CollectandO Canada with Mar­ gery Huether as pianist. A variety of answers were given for the roll call - name a profession or lifestyle that women over the year have taken a more major role. Misses Peggy Humphries and Joyanne Van Vliet were home tor the weekend from Mohawk Col­ lege, Hamilton. Miss Mary MacDonald, Toronto is visiting in the area. Helen Craig returned and conducted the business. Margaret Shortreed read the minutes and gave the financial report. She also reported that windows ar^ going to be purchased. It was planned to put a display at cousins attended the 35th Anniver­ sary and retirement party for Dr. John and Kathy Bennett of New Market. Mary Humphries has been staying with George and Kim Kruse, Bayfield since the arrival home of their new son born at London recently. Mr. and Mrs. Don Street, Bluevale and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Mitchell and Doug, Brussels were dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Emmerson Mitchell following the anniversary service at Duff’s United Church Sunday. Ethel 4-H Club meets Ethel III held their first meeting Monday, Sept. 14 at Sharon Cowman’shome. The members are studying “Ontario’s Fruits and Vegetables.’’ Leaders are Sharon Cowman and Alicia Dixon. At meeting one the club held its elections. Shelley Bray is president by unanimous decision. Tracy Finch is vice-president. Secretary went to Colleen Keupher. Pat Cowman is the press reporter. The fun name is the “Seven Eager Eaters”. Members made celery stuffed with creamed cheese and chopped pickles, marinated cauli- flowerettes, plain popcorn with garlic, curry powder and parmesan cheese, cream cheese and tomato slices on melba toast, and cucum­ ber and onion slices with vinegar. The food wasdelicious and nicely made. After snacking, they closed the meeting and cleaned up the Brussels Fall Fair this week. Delegates were chosen to go to the County Rally in Londesboro on Monday, Oct. 5. Several plan to attend the Guelph Area Conven­ tion Oct. 29 - 30 in Atwood. Luncheon held A hot turkey luncheon was served by the Walton Institute ladies on Wednesday, Sept. 16 when over 80 people attended. The next luncheon is set for Wed., Oct. 21 to start shortly after 11:30 a.m. Dessert euchre held The Institute started their euchresofffortheseasonwith a dessert euchre on Thursday even­ ing with 32 people present. After sampling the many differ­ ent desserts, euchre was played upstairs with seven tables in play. Winners were: high lady, Margery Ritchie; low lady, Mrs. Chas. Boyd; high man, Ted Fothergill; low, Clara Haig (playing as a man); Most No. 7 on card, Brenda Peirie; lucky chair, Brenda Perrie; most lone hands, Kate Wilson. These euchres continue the third Thursday of the month at 8 p.m. with lunch served. The scores for the season will be kept by the secretary and three top prizes will be awarded. The boys began the Western Ontario playoffs by putting Shake­ speare out in four games. The}' then met Wellesley and eliminated them in four games. The final series was played against Williamsford, with Walton winn­ ing three of the four games played. Ushers were Steve Fritz, Ron Stevenson, Donna Godkin, Sherry Hoegy, Brian Marks and Ben McKiiiop man dies in Stratford GEORGE SHANNON LOVE George Shannon Love of McKil- lop Twp. died at Stratford General Hospital Thursday, Sept. 17,1987, in his 77th year. He is survived by his wife the former Bertha Hoggart and child­ ren George of Walton, Faye (Mrs. Graeme MacDonald) of Brussels, and Tom of Waterloo. The Walton boys placed first in the Tri-County season’s games losing only one game out of 13. The Tri-County finals were played as a round robin between Brussels, Monkton, and Walton. Walton won the Tri-County A Trophy in Brussels Friday night after winn­ ing all their games in the playoffs. Over the summer the boys have played 35 games losing only seven. Also surviving are six grand­ children Richard and Brian Love, Julie and Peter MacDonald, Chan- telle and Matthew Love. Friends were received Friday at the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home, Seaforth. A private family service was held on Saturday, Sept. 19th, with Rev. Bonnie Lamble officiat­ ing. Interment was in Maitland- bank Cemetery, Seaforth.
