To be a good Chrisitian, practice what you preach BYBOBBARNHART PASTOR BLYTH CHURCH OF GOD There’s a story told about a young man who was preparing to be a pastor. One of the require ments at the school he attended was that he work in a Church under an older and experienced Pastor. The young man was assigned to such a pastor. The older Pastor wanted him to work on his sermon delivery. Each time before he was to speak he had to preach his sermon before the older pastor in the empty sanctu ary. One day one of the parishion ers came by to see the older pastor. He heard the speaking in the sanctuary. He went in the back and saw the young Pastor up front and the older Pastor in the back. He went over to the older pastor, sat down beside him and asked what the younger pastor was doing. The older pastor looked at him and smiled, then he said: “Oh, he is just practising what he preaches. I think we have all heard that expression “practise what you preach." The second response that Jesus considers unacceptable was in Matthew 7: 24-27. These are the people who hear what you say and agree with you. Yet they do not do anythingaboutit. Jesus said: "But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. ’ ’ Jesus (Smitty). Charles Swindoll in his book "Three Steps Forward Two Steps Back” says “What is a sign of maturity? Practising what you hear. Through practice you be come mature.
