The Citizen, 1987-09-09, Page 9THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 1987. PAGE 9. One reeve says good-bye, one says hello Before Huron County Council broke for lunch, former Brussels Reeve Hank TenPas approached the podium to speak to his fellow colleagues for the last time. Mr. TenPas told council how this was a sad day for him, and said that he had to resign because “My health could not stand up to the pressure anymore.’’ He concluded by thanking council and saying that he has learned a lot through them. Earlier in the day. Gordon Workman took his place as the new reeve of Brussels through appoint ment. Reeve Workman will take Mr. TenPas’ place on the commit tee for the Management of Huron- view for the duration of Mr. Tenpas’ term. Council also dedicated a new plaque honouring the reeves who have sat on county council for at least 15 years. Warden McBurney also accepted a print of the Perth County Court House on behalf of council as presented by the invited guests: Perth County Council. The county council executive committee released the consoli dated statement of re venue and expenditure for the county for the first six months ending on June 30. While budgeted revenues and expenditures are $20,304,950, for the entire year, only $8,310,439 has been spent and received thus far. An extension of fringe benefits for early retirement was approved by council. The program will be for those employees who are between the ages of 55 and 65 who have at least 25 years of service with the county. Thecostpaid by the county will be $69.23 per month for married employees and 132.79 per month for single employees. The county will pay 75 per cent for a former employees OHIP cost while the employee would be responsible for the other 25 per cent as well as paying into the county’s life insurance plan. It is estimated that five to 10 people will use the program yearly. Two of the motions that have appeared on many municipal agendas over the summer were discussed at the meeting. The first wasamotionby the Township of South Crosby regarding the Meech Lake Accord. The proposal was greeted just the sa me as it had been elsewhere and was defeated there as it had been everywhere else except the Township of South Crosby. The other motion was from the town ofWingham regarding the privatization of the post office. While most councils, including the county one, have supported this proposal, the township of Usborne wrote to council stating that they did not support the resolution. Grant requests from the Central Huron association of the Mentally Retarded were denied by council. Currently, the county donates $350 to the organization per year.
