Auburn Mites finish undefeated season Auburn Mites finished off an undefeated season when they defeated Goderich 10 - 5 to take the championship of their group Mite tournament in Blyth on Saturday. Behind the strong pitching of southpaw Jonathon Collins Au burn dominated Goderich in the final. They experienced some late-inning jitters that saw them help Goderich get back into the game with a number of errors in the second last inning but in the final inning Collins took control himself with two strikeouts to end the Goderich challenge. The tournament was played under difficult conditions with heavy overcast and cold winds in the morning which gave way to sunshine in the afternoon but winds so strong they swirled dust in the eyes of the players all afternoon. Blyth No. 1 won the “B” consolation championship with a 16-3rompoverColborne. Blyth had been relegated to the consola tion round by Auburn in the first game of the tournament while Colborne had lost to Blyth No. 1 in its first game. With Chris Howson and Andrew Wharton pitching, the aggressive Blyth team was in firm control the whole way, always looking to the extra base on every hit. The team received a late scare when four straight walks with none out accounted for one Colborne run but an unassisted double play by second baseman Henry Bos helped quell the rally. ***** Tomatoes are an important crop in Ontario agriculture.
