The brother and sister team of Edwin Eickmeyer and Frances Tuer, both of Mitchell, were the winners of the Frank Carter Trophy in the annual tournament held at the Brussels Lawn Bowling Club last Thursday. President of the local club Jean Bewley, right, presented the trophy which was donated by Jim and Lydia Turnbull of Brussels in 1975, in honour of Mr. Carter, a charter member of the club. Ed Eickmeyer and Frances Tuer of Mitchell took the top score for the Frank Carter trophy. Roy Elliott of Mitchell was second: Lloyd Pletch, Walkerton, third; Roy Ross, Walkerton, fourth; Reg Robinson, Mitchell, fifth; Joe Smith, Atwood, sixth; Joe Higgns, Mitchell, seventh; Ken Benedict, Elmira, eighth; Harvey McCal­ lum, Blyth, ninth and Gene Dalling, Preston took the consola­ tion. Blyth Mites girls win both trophies Lisa Watt, of Blyth, rides Romulus of Rome while owner Marielisa Zanmatti [right] displays the trophy Lisa won in the Italian Quarter Horse Show. Lisa and her sister Caroline are both in Italy. The Blyth Mites girls softball teams showed that they are made of the right stuff by taking both the “A”and“B” Event champion­ ships in tournament play at Londesboro last Friday and Satur­ day. On Friday evening, the Blyth I and Blyth II teams locked horns, with Blyth II coming out on top by a score of 9-6. On Saturday, the Goderich I and Goderich II teams went head to head, with Goderich I winning the match. The “B” final saw Blyth I going against Goderich II, with the Blyth girls capturing the Consolation Trophy by a score of 11-6. The final game matched Blyth II against Godeiich 1, with the local girls again coming out on top in a close 7-6 game, to take home the “A” Event Championship. The tournament saw the end of Mites Girls play for the season. Blyth native wins prizes in Italian competition Lenore Watt, RR 1, Blyth recently returned from a two-week tour of Rome, Lorrentoand the Isle of Capri area of Italy. She visited her youngest daughter Lisa who recently showed at the Italian Quarter Horse Association show held near Pisa where she won the High Point award for the European-bred Quarter Horse in Italy. Lenore Watt’s younger daugh- er Caroline is also in Italy for the summer but in the northern part, training and promoting American Quarter Horses. I I ATTENTION /stZ We're pleased to invite you...
