She’s the daughter of William and Joanne King of Brussels. She is an instructor/lifeguard at the Brus­ sels, Morris and Grey Pool and will return to Grade 13 at F. E. Madill Secondary School in September. She plans to attend university after graduating from high school. She’s sponsored by the Majestic Wo­ men’s Institute of Brussels. JENNIFER MINERS Jennifer is 17 years of age. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Miners, RR 2, Bluevale. She will be a Grade 12 students at F. E. Madill Secondary School in September and plans to go on to study law in university. Jennifer is sponsored by the Golden Lantern Restaurant. Cindy is 18 years of age. She’s the daughter of Don and Susan McNeil of Brussels. She will be attending Grade 13 at F. E. Madill Secondary School in September. She is planning further education at the University of Windsor where she will study law. She is sponsored by Brussels Recreation. Heather is 18 years of age. She is the daughter of John and Marie McIntosh, RR 5, Brussels. She will be attending Grade 13 at F. E. Madill Secondary School in Sep­ tember. She plans to get involved in the agricultural field in future. She is sponsored by Brussels Legion Pipe Band. Four compete for fair queen Compiled by Marilyn Higgins Call887-6754 On Saturday afternoon August 22, Neil and Marie McGavin of Walton hosted a reunion of family members and friends of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Stewart. An exciting game of volleyball was enjoyed on their spacious lawn and an intersting trip to the sugar bush and pond on the tractor drawn farm wagon was enjoyed by all. Visitors arrived from Huntsville, Sarnia, Bracebridge, Stratford and Tor­ onto. Mr. and Mrs. Mel Jacklin have returned home from a trip to Pennsylvania where the Civil War was fought, they also toured Lancaster and visited among the Amish where they enjoyed an Amish meal, then they also visited other parts of the state. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Ken Cousins and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Trivett who were married last Saturday. Don’t forget to come out tonight (Wednesday) and cheer on Brus­ sels ball teams. The Intermediate championship games are being held after being rained out on Only four contestants have come forward to compete for the title of Miss Brussels Fall Fair, 1987-88, a far cry from the record 11 young ladies who vied for the crown last year. Those attending included his daughter Jeanne Blake and friend Ray White of Brussels; grandsons Donaldand his wife Dawn Kirk­ connell of Edmonton, Alberta, Ronald, and his wife Shelly Kirkconnell of Goderich, Greg Kirkconnell of Clinton, and his friend Wendy Campbell of Sea­ forth, granddaughters Faye and her husband Raymond Peel of Gorrie and Mary Anne and her husband Jack VanDeHengel of Ajax; and six great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Jenna and Mark Kirk­ connell, Natalie Peel and Michael and Lucas VanDenHengel. The 1987-88 winner and runner- up will be chosen at the Queen of the Fair Competition dinner and dance at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre on Satur­ day, September 5, with the crowning to take place at about 10 p.m. Earlier in the day the contestants will be interviewed by contest judges, and each will give a two minutes speech following the dinner, which is by invitation only. Up to 20 points out of a possible 100 will be awarded for the interview, a speech and the overall appearance of each girl, while a maximum of 40 points may be awarded for poise and personality. The new queen will reign over the 1987 Brussels Fall Fair, which takes place September 22-23, and must remain available for related appearances throughout the following year. Next August, she will have the opportunity to compete with the other Fair Queens from all over Ontario for the title of Miss CNE in Toronto. Linda Ten Pas of Brussels was the 1986-87 Brussels Fair Queen, while Charlene Stephenson, alsoof Brussels, was chosen as runner- up. “I’m going to be both happy and sad to give up my crown,’’ says Miss Ten Pas. “The whole thing has been a really wonderful experience.” August 16. Well, it must be getting close to the time for the fall fairs to start, at least by the feel of the weather, but if we think it’s cold here, two local men working in Chapleau report that when they talked to each other they can see their breath, maybe it’s not so bad here after all.
