Brookses celebrate 50th
Couple to live in
Bluevale area
BRADSHAW - MINERS
Tracey Lynn Bradshaw and
Russell Carl Miners were married
in a double-ring ceremony, Satur
day, June 27, 1987 at Melville
Presbyterian Church, Brussels
with Rev. V. Jamieson officiating.
The bride is the daughter of
Mary Bradshaw of Brussels. The
groom is the son of Carl and
Marianne MinersofRR 2, Blue
vale.
Maid of Honour was Lynne
Taylor, friend of the bride. Brides
maids were Jennifer Miners, sister
of the groom, Angela Harris,
friend of the bride and Peggy
Keffer, friend of the bride. The
Damage heavy in 2 farm
implement fires
Damage was heavy in two
separate farm implement fires,
both of which occurred August 6,
according to Wingham Fire Chief
Harley Gaunt.
A John Deere combine owned by
Jim Bolesworth and Henry Beyers-
bergen of RR 1, Ethel caught fire
while being repaired with an
electric welder at the farm of Don
Henry, Lot 50, Concession 1 of
Morris Township, resulting in
flowergirl was Laura Warwick,
niece of the groom.
Bestman was Bruce Weber,
friend of the groom. Guests were
ushered by Robbie Glew, cousin of
the bride; Glenn Miners, brother of
the groom; and Murray Keffer,
friend of the groom. Ringbearer
was Curtis Meyers, cousin of the
bride.
Pianist was Jo Anne King and
soloist was Margaret Shortreed.
A reception was held at the
Brussels, Morris and Grey Com
munity Centre. After returning
from their honeymoon in Jamaica
the couple will reside at RR 2,
Bluevale.
$12,000 to $15,000 in damage.
Firemen were called to extinguish
the blaze at about 3:30 p.m.
In an unrelated incident later the
same day, Wingham firemen
responded to a call to County Road
34 in Howick Twp. to battle a fire
apparently caused by an overheat
ed bearing on a forage harvester
owned by Robert Hastie of Gorrie.
Damage in the incident was
estimated at $30,000.
The afternoon of August 16 was a
happy occasion for Edwin and
Margaret Brooks as they celebrat
ed their 50th wedding anniversary
at a reception at the home of their
son and daughter-in-law, Mac and
Brenda Brooks of Blyth.
One hundred and fifty guests
were in attendance.
Many guests came from areas
where Ed and Marg had lived
previously such as Adelaide, near
Strathroy, and from Meneset Park,

lives, ’ ’ and the only way to protect
yourself in case of a collision is to be
properly belted up ... adults in seat
belts and children in the appropri
ate child restraint system.
It’s a Fact: “Around the block
can be more dangerous than
freeway driving”, as people drive
more local short trips than long
distance ones.
With the above facts in mind and
in the interest of public safety, the
Huron County O.P.P. Detach
ments at Exeter, Goderich, and
Wingham will continue to place
emphasis on both road and marine
safety through the R.I.D.E. (Re
duce Impaired Driving Every
where) and Marine Awareness
Program.
The “Strict Is Fair” program has
proven to be an effective method of
reducing accidents and death, and
patrol officers will be paying
special attention to Impaired driv

Susie Smith showered
Susie Smith was honoured at a
community shower held in the
Ethel United Church Tuesday
evening.
Barb Grube was in charge of the
program and conducted two con
tests. Cindy Evans read the bridal
address. Seated at the front with
Susie were her mother Joan Smith,
sister Nancy and Mrs. Farrish,
mother of the groom Rob Farrish.
Helping the bride to open her
Goderich, the location of their
present residence. Special guests
included Ed Brooks’ only surviving
sister, Pat, from B.C., and her
friend from Listowel, Mrs. Brooks’
cousins from Toronto, Dorchester,
Sarnia and London, and Jack
Riddell, Ontario’s Minister of
Agriculture, and Mrs. Riddell.
At this event the Brooks’
son-in-law, Richard Chalmers and
grandson Brent Brooks directed

It’s a Fact: The number of fatal
motorvehicleaccidentsin No. 6
District, Mount Forest (Including
Huron County) this year to July
1987 is 21 fatalities, and of these,
19 persons (none of whom were
wearing seatbelts) were ejected
from the vehicles involved result
ing in serious or fatal injuries.
These deaths were attributed to
excessive speed and the lack of seat
belt use.
It’s a Fact: Child safety seats
reduce deaths by 90 per cent and
crippling in injuries by 70 per cent.
You never know when a crash
might happen or even a sudden
stop, therefore, thekeyistouse
these restraints, but use them
properly.
With the above facts in mind,
everyone buckle up. Remember -
the life you save may be yours!

only cards and gifts and the plaque
presented by Jack Riddell to
commemorate the Brooks’
“50th”, but also precious memen
tos such as a scrap book of “Days
Gone By” compiled by daughter-
in-law Brenda, the wedding certifi
cate, and a Westerminister mantel
clock which was a wedding gift of
50 years ago.
Presiding at the attractive buffet
table, centred with a carved out
watermelon filled with fruit, (com
pliments of Margaret Anderson of
Londesboro), were Vera Hessel-
wood, a former neighbour; Bernice
McClinchey, friend of the bride;
and Brenda Brook’s sister, Sharee
Bartliff of Clinton. They were
assisted by granddaughter Nicole
Brooks and a friend Lori Sinnamon
of Bayfield. Delicious fancy sand
wiches, petit fours, fruit punch,
coffee and tea were served. In use
was a silver tea service, a gift to the
bride and groom by Adelaide
Village friends on the occasion of
their 25th wedding anniversary.
