Homemakers suggest: take a senior to a show The co-ordinator of volunteers for Town and Country Home makers in Wingham has come up with an idea that will get some seniors out for a good time, and at the same time expand the gener osity of some of Huron County’s more able citizens. Bev Brown of Brussels suggests that with only a few weeks left in the Blyth Festival summer season, volunteer drivers who are already going to the theatre might like to offer to pick up a senior or handicapped citizen, take them along, and deliver them back to their doors once the play is over. She stresses that the commit ment would only be in providing a ride for such people, as they would have to make arrangements to purchase their own tickets to the play, and would therefore not likely even be sitting with their hosts of the evening. “I don’t anticipate any money changing hands,” says Miss Brown. “This would be a matter of providing a ride only.” The Town and Country Home makers volunteer driver program already has in place a network of volunteer drivers from all over the county, but most of them have already volunteered to drive elder ly or handicapped citizens to appointments, for shopping, etc. Miss Brown sees her ‘‘theatre volunteers’ ’ as a means of bringing together people who are already going to the theatre with people who would like to go, but would be otherwise unable to attend. She asks that both theatre goers with extra room in their cars and elderly or handicapped persons in Huron County who would like to ride to the theatre contact either herself, or Town and Country executive director Jean Young, at 357-3222 for arrangements to be made.
