The miniature tractor pull attracted a lot of contestants to the various
classes in the event, held Sunday afternoon in Brussels as part of the
village’s 115th Birthday and Homecoming Celebration. The Brussels
Optimist Club organized the event.
BY CHRIS LAWS
It was another of many thorns in
the side of Exeter Reeve Bill Mickle
as county council passed a motion
to send Hay Township’s re vised
planning by-law to mediation last
Thursday. With the appeal period
completed, several objections had
been lodged against the revised
planning bylaw. The two main
objections were with respect to
Exeter’s objection concerning the
Hay Agri-Park, and the objections
of several cottage owners request
ing permanent residential zoning.
Usually the next step in zoning is
to submit the by-law for an OMB
hearing and settle any objections
amicably before the hearing. In
this case, with the type and number
of objections, the Planning and
Development Committee has re
commended that in order to resolve
objections, that the Ministry of
Municipal Affairs become involv
ed, and utilize their objection
mediation program.

County seeks mediation
Davidson, who the mediators
would be. While Dr. Davidson said
that the mediators had yet to be
selected, he did say that they would
be planners from the Ministry of
Municipal Affairs. Mickel stated
that he had heard rumours that a
mediation team had already been
selected. He next asked Dr.
Davidson if he had been one of the
mediators selected. Dr. Davidson
responded that he had not been
selected, and was not a planner
with the Ministry of Municipal
affairs,.
ROADREPORT
In the Roads Engineer’s report,
it was reported that work on County
Road 17 is two thirds completed,
and that the work started on
County Road 18 is already three
weeks ahead of schedule. Winter
Control expenditures are currently
$50,000 less than at the same time
last year, and tenders awarded to
date are $34,867 less than expect
ed.
An order for grader tires which
were to be purchased from Brian
Pickett Ride Centre Ltd. had to be
cancelled because the tires for
which the quotation was given are
no longer being manufactured by
B.F. Goodrich. While waiting for
the tires, the Road Committee
were advised if they did not
purchase new grader tires soon,
the vehicles would have to be taken
out of service, and replacements
would have to be rented. Calls were
made to the second and third
lowest tenders, but they could not
promise delivery dates on Grader
tires.
McArthur Tire of Owen Sound
was the fourth lowest tender and
called next. They said that if the
tires were ordered that day
(Friday, June 12), they would be
delivered on June 15 at the original
quoted price of $8,569.29. This
price was approximately $800
more than the original cost quoted
by Brian Pickett Ride Centre Ltd.
The county purchased $13,457.69
worth oftruck tires the previous
month from McArther Tire.
SUPPORT. NOW.
Your children need your support. Your financial
support. They need it for all the basic things chil -
dren require: clothing, food, and shelter.
Importantly, they need your support on a reg
ular basis. They need to know that they can count
on you.
As of July 2, 1987, the Support and Custody
Enforcement Program will be in place to ensure
that support and custody responsibilities among
family members are met. The well-being of your
children depends on it.
