holds service
Auburn hall was packed Saturday afternoon for the Auburn Lions euchre tournament. Taking home the
first prize of $50 were Don and Lynda Curran of Dungannon; second prize Jack and Ruth Ann Brennan of
Auburn and third Andy Plunkett and Lucille Arthur of Auburn. The booby prize went to Grace Cartwright
and Ann Giousher. Money raised will go to the Clinton Hospital fund.

FWIO resolutions
The monthly meeting of the
Auburn Women’s Institute was
held at the Community Hall on
Tuesday, February 17.
The hall was decorated for
Valentine’s Day by the convenors,
Marjorie McDougall and Mrs.
Viola Raithby. “Resolutions” was
the topic.
Mrs. Len Armchambault the
president, chaired the meeting and
opened with the singing of the
Institute Ode, Mary Stewart Col
lect and O Canada with Marjorie
McDougall as pianist. There were
15 members present. The minutes
were read by the secretary Mrs. R.
Peck and accepted as read.
Mrs. Tom Lawlor read several
resolutions that were compiled by
the Federation Women’s Insti
Cheerio Club meets
The Cheerio Club met on
February 18 at 2 p.m. at the home
of Dora Shobbrook. She welcomed
all by reading the poem on
“Welcome.”
The roll call was answered by
eight members and one visitor
whowas Margaret Taylor. The
minutes of the last meeting were
read and correspondence consist
ed of thank you notes from Clara
Riley, Bob Burns, the Lung
Association. The treasurer’s re
port showed a balance of $22.54.
A draw donated by Beth Knox
was won by Tri Duizer. Everyone
signed a sympathy card for the
Sottiaux family. Some readings “A
busy day” and “Do you remember
when” were given by Estella
Adams. ‘ ‘You can’t win and we die
and only get a stone” was read by
Dora Shobbrook. A contest about
tutes of Ontario. The roll call was
answered by telling “a Canadian
law that causes me some concern. ’ ’
Mrs. Raithby read three poems,
“If you were busy,” “Memory
Bank” and “Do these things this
week.” Marjorie McDougall had a
Valentine contest and the winner
was Marian Haggitt. Mrs. Raithby

Peck was the winner.

reading on the origin of the St.
Valentine and “Friends” and

closed with singing of the Queen
and Grace. A delicious lunch was
served by the hostesses Marjorie
McDougall and Mrs. Raithby.
Mrs. Tom Lawlor won the door
prize and a social half hour was
enjoyed.

at the Auburn euchre party held at
the Community Hall on Tuesday,
February 17.
Winners were: high man, Ted
Mills; low man, Ernest Durnin;
high lady, Adelaide Allin; low lady,
Grace Cartwright; novelty, Harry
Arthur.
A special prize made by Ray
Hanna was won by Lillian Stewart.

The minister Gary Shuttleworth
conducted the morning service at
Knox United Church on Sunday
with the organ prelude by Mrs.
Greg Park.
The prayer of Invocation was
said in unison followed by the
Lord’s Payrer. The life and work of
the church were given.
The senior choirs sang, “Rock of
My Soul” under the direction of
Lori Millian. The children’s hymn,
“Savior Teach me Day by Day”
was sung. The minister told the
children a story and they went to
their Sunday School rooms with
teacher, Mrs. Robert Worsell and
Lori Armstrong. The minister’s
sermon was entitled, “A Word to
the Wise.” The offertory prayer
was said and the offering was
received by Lawrence Plaetzer and
Allan Webster and dedicated. The

Silver Tops
hold dinner
The Silver Tops held their pot
luck dinner at the Community Hall
on Wednesday, February 18 with
30 persent.
They also sent out three dinners.
There was a short business
meeting and Elliott Lapp was
named to fill the vacancy upon the
death of Ross Robinson to serve on
the Hall Board for the Silver Tops.
A letter was read from the Golden
Gate Seniors of Goderich to attend
their meeting on April 15 and was
accepted.
