Blyth councillors set salaries Former county employee dies Blyth village councillors set their own salaries and those of town employees at the February meet­ ing of Blyth Village council Feb. 10. Reeve Albert Wasson will re­ ceive $575 for the year while councillors will receive $1,080 per year. Councillors will also receive $66 per day or $50 per half-day for out of town meetings and conven­ tions. Special and committee meetings will bring an extra $30 per meeting. For delegates to conventions and seminars council will authorize payment of registra­ tion, accommodation and meals with up to $30 per day meal allowance alotted, providing the Morris native dies in Toronto at 69 MARY FERROL [HIGGINS] FARRIER Mary Ferrol Farrier of 40 23rd St., Long Branch died in Toronto February 7, 1987 in her 69th year. The former Mary Ferrol Higgins she was born in Morris township and attended S.S. No. 7, Stone School in Morris Township before going on to Wingham High School and Stratford Teachers College where she studied to become a teacher. She was the daughter of the late Nelson and Lena Higgins. She is survived by her son Brian Farrier of Toronto, her daughter Colleen and her husband Parseh Athariaof Calgary, Alberta and Carol and her husband Joel Hawyley of Wellsboro, Pennsyl­ vania. delegate produces receipts to prove the expense. Councillors will receive 25 cents per kilometre for travel expenses. The town foreman will receive $9.40 per hour based on a 44 week with overtimeof $14.10 above that. His assistant will earn $8.85 per hour. Casual labour will receive $7.80. The secretary will receive $8 per hour. The salary of the clerk-treasurer has not been re­ leased. The janitor for the village offices will receive $95 per month and garbage collection will cost the village $42 per hour for the crew and truck. Alsosurviving are her sisters and brothers: Dorothy Higgins of Brussels, Charlie and Norman Higgins, Ross and Wilma Higgins, all of RR 5, Brussels; Tom and Edna Pletch, Brussels; Mildred and Lloyd McDonald, Waterloo; Rod McLeod of Toronto. Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Winn Farrier who was her devoted companion for 22 years. The funeral service was held from her home church, Century United Church, Toronto on Feb. 9 with Rev. Malcolm Fife officiating. The commital service was held on February 10 at the Wingham Mausoleum in Wingham Ceme­ tery with Rev. John G. Roberts conducting the service. Spring burial willbe in Brandon Ceme­ tery, Belgrave. DAVID BRUCE SMITH Bruce Smith of Blyth died February 8, 1987 in Clinton Public Hospital. He was born 65 years ago in Morris Township. He is survived by his wife, the former Sadie Mabel Fear and by two sons, Floyd of Londonand Rick of Exeter. One brother, Glen of Brussels; and two ___ Blyth merchant for 30 years dies JOHN THOMAS STEWART A fixture on Blyth’s main street, John (Jack) Stewart, died in Wingham and District Hospital on Brussels woman dies at age 74 LO UIS A AMELIA HISLOP Louisa Amelia Hislop of Brus­ sels and formerly of Wroxeter died in Wingham and District Hospital on February 11, 1987. She was 74 years of age. The former Louisa Subject, she was born in Chesley and married George Davidson Hislop who died in May, 1986. She is survived by three daugh­ ters and two sons: Florence White of Listowel; Evelyn Stephens, Blyth man dies ALFRED HUGH WHARTON Alfred Hugh Wharton of Blyth died February 6,1987 in Wingham following a short illness. He was 71 years of age. Hewasborn in Saskatchewan and farmed in the Westfield area of East Wawanosh township. He married the former Blanche Stiler who predeceased him. He is survived by three sons, David, RR 3, Wingham; John, RR sisters, Harriet, Mrs. Thomas Millar, Brussels and Clara, Mrs. Arthur Ruttan, Corbeton also survive. Mr. Smith was honoured in December on his retirement after nine years with the Huron County Roads Department. A veteran, he was honoured by a Legion service on Feb. 10. He was a Feb. 6,1987 after being ill for only a month. He was 72 years of age. Mr. Stewart, who was born in Listowel, had operated Stewart’s Red and White store on main street Wingham; Shirley Leek, Listowel; George and his wife Isabelle and Gordon and his wife Bonnie, both of Wroxeter. Also surviving are five sisters and one brother, 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son, one sister and three brothers. The funeral service was held from the Gorrie Chapel of the M. L. Watts Funeral Home with Rev. D. Pugh in charge. Interment was in Wroxeter cemetery. 3, Blyth; James, Belgrave and one daughter Sylvia, Mrs. Peter Brommer, RR 3, Blyth. A brother Thomas of Belgrave and a sister Mrs. Thurza Donald­ son of Teeswater also survive. The funeral service was held on Feb. 9 from the Tasker Funeral Home in Blyth. Rev. C. Wittich conducted the service. Interment wasinTeeswatercemetery. His grandsons served as pallbearers. member of Trinity Anglican Church, Blyth. The funeral service was held on Feb. 11 from the Tasker Funeral Home, Blyth with Rev. Roger Gel wicks officiating. Interment was in Brussels Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Bruce Rich­ mond, Ralph McCrea, Jim Chal­ mers and Russell Cook. (where Chauncey’s is now located) for 32 years until his retirement in July, 1977. He had started in the grocery business as a teenager and had later worked in the business in Hamilton before coming to Blyth. He served for 12 years on the public school board and was on the board during the years of amal­ gamation of the rural school areas and while the new Blyth Public School was built. He was also involved in minor ball and hockey over the years. He was a member of Blyth United Church and was a former member of the Blyth Lions Club andofthe IndependentOrderof Oddfellows. Heissurvivedbyhiswife, the former Ruth Cockwell and by three sons, John, Donald and Kenneth, all of Blyth and two daughters, Nancy, Mrs. John Roe of Atwood and Ann, Mrs. Joe Hulzebos of Blyth. One half-sister, Mrs. May Cookson of British Columbia also survives. The funeral service was held on Feb. 8, 1987 from the Tasker Funeral Home with Rev. K. Bauman conducting the service. Interment was in Blyth Union Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Doug Scrimgeour, Gordon Hag- gitt, Doug Whitmore and Lloyd Walsh.
