Grade 8’s are captains of the teams which include the Celtics, the Lakers, the Pistons, the Knicks, the 76’s, the Hawks, the Bulls and the Trailblazers. Grade 7’s also are playing. There are approximately six players on each team, and two referees from Grade 8, but Mr. Livermore will refereethe play­ offs. The Canadian Foresters met on Tuesday, Feb. 10 in the Cranbrook Community Centre. They are having a card party on Friday, February 20 and their next meeting will be on March 10. It will be a pot luck supper at 7 p.m. with a video on the Canadian Foresters games for the physically disabled. Any­ one interested may bring a favorite dish and come along. Sister Mary Ellen Jacklin won the 50/50 draw. Lunch was provided by Sisters Brenda Perrie and Linda Morton and Brother Donald Clark. Mrs. Ron Burdett, and little son Brent Gordon, Waterloo, visited on Saturday with Mrs. Mac Engel. Madill Secondary School for the annual volleyball tournament. They faced schools such as Wingham, Howick Turnberry, East Wawanosh, Brus­ sels and Belgrave. The competi­ tion was fierce, andtheschool’s cheering section (led by Mrs. Colquhoun) went wild. The boys team did well although they did not win any one game. The girls did slightly better. Winners were: high, Isabelle Bremner, Chuck Novak; low, Viola Kirkby, Donald Clark; lone hands, Mary Huether, John Simpson; at lucky table, Linda Minielly, Violet Smith, Jack Conley, Bill Craig; birthday, Dorothy Dilworth; tall­ ies, Beryl Smith, Brenda Perrie, Ross Stephenson and Jean Conley. The card party on February 20 will be sponsored by the Foresters. Grade 6's study Scotland, then go curling The grade six class is studying Scotland. In their studies they found that curling is Scotland’s national sport. So, on Tuesday, February 3, they went curling at the Brussels Arena from 9:30 to 10:30. Everybody enjoyed the event. They are also doing novel study to help them improve their reading skills. In novel study, each student chooses a book in which he/she mightbeinterested. When they finish the book, they write a summary and answer questions.
