Phone 887-9487 Knox Church holds meeting The annual meeting of Knox United Church, Belgrave, was held following the morning service on Sunday, January 25. After a delicious lunch. Rev. John Roberts called the meeting to order and opened with prayer. George Procter was appointed secretary for the meeting. Trea­ surer Lewis Stonehouse presented the financial statement and thank­ ed the congregation for the excellent support during 1986. The auditor’sreportwaspresented and a vote of thanks extended to UCW sees slides of Brazil The General meeting of the U.C.W was held Thursday even­ ing. January 29. At 6:30 p.m. a delicious pot luck supper was enjoyed by members and their husbands of Belgrave and Calvin-Brick congregations. Mrs. Harold Vincent, president welcomed everyone and Rev. John Roberts asked the blessing. Following the meal Mrs. Harold Vincent presided for the meeting. Thehymn, “CalledtoBecome” was sung accompanied by Mrs. George Johnston at the piano. Mrs. Murray Vincent led an inspiring worship service on the theme ‘‘Unto the Hills”, assisted by Mrs. Ross Higgins. Mrs. Ross Higgins read the scripture. The offering was receiv­ ed and dedicated, followed by the meditation ‘‘AlwaysLook Up”. The hymn, ‘‘How Firm a Founda­ tion” was sung and Mrs. Harold Vincent closed the worship service with prayer. Mrs. Ross Anderson welcomed Mr. and Mrs. George Underwood of Wingham guest speaker who showed slides and told of their trip to Brazil. A question and answer period followed. Mrs. George Michie thanked Mr. and Mrs. Underwood for their interesting commentary and shar­ ing their pictures of their trip. Mrs. Harold Vincent conducted the business. The minutes were read and adopted. Mrs. Vincent announced the next meeting will be March 26 and the World Day of Prayer will be held March 6 in the Anglican Church. Rev. John Roberts conducted the installation service for the officers for 1987 and then closed the meeting with the Benediction. 9 tables at Belgrave euchre party Nine tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the W.I. Hall, Belgrave, January 28. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Helen Martin; most lone hands, lady, Mrs. Ronnie Coultes; low lady, Mrs. Gordon Bosman; high man, Lewis Stonehouse; most lone hands, man, RossTaylor; low man, Garner Nicholson; first lucky draw, lady, Mrs. Irma Coughlin; second lucky draw, man, Mrs. Garner Nicholson (playing as a man). There will be euchre again this Wednesday starting at 8 p.m. Treasurer Lewis for his dedicated work. Elected to the session for a three year term were Mabel Wheeler, John Campbell and Muriel Coul­ tes. New members of the Board of Stewards are Douglas Casemore, Louise Bosman and James Keller. Lewis Stonehouse was appointed to another term as Trustee. It was agreed that Barbara Anderson would again be responsible for organizing the ushers and offering stewards. Dorothy Coultes was appointed to the Christian Educa­ tion Committee. Sunday School superintendent William Coultes reported on ano­ ther successful year and expressed thanks to the teachers and officers for their work. The Youth Club, under the leadership of Rev. and Mrs. Roberts, meets regularly with a good attendance. It was agreed to continue with the ‘ ‘Every family plan” for the Observer. After some discussion it was decided to hold the Country Fayre on June 27, 1987. Mary Hunter presented the 1987 budget which was accepted as presented. On behalf of the congregation, Mary thanked Rev. and Mrs. Roberts for their leader­ ship during the past year. The next annual meeting will be held January 31,1988followingthe morning service. Rev. Roberts closed the meeting with the benediction. Twenty members of Calvin- Brick United Church gathered at the home of Richard and Norma Mooreon Sunday evening January 25 for their annual meeting. Rev. John Roberts opened the meeting with prayer and conduc­ ted the business. Mrs. Roy Daw­ son, treasurer presented the finan­ cial statements which showed that the congregation had met its obligations. Election of officers was held. Stewards to retire in 1989 are Ronald McBurney, Murray Shiell and Barry Mason. The trustee to retire in 1989 is George Inglis. The United Church Women Represen­ tative is Mrs. Donald Dow. Sunday School Superintendent is Donald Dow; ushers and offering, Ronald McBurney, Jim McGee, Stephen Dow, Angela Coultes, Cathy Dow, Maryan Dow, Heather Shiell, Bradley Shiell, Danny Ward, Joanne Olson, Jason Coultes, Grady Lamb and Darcy Lamb; music committee, Mrs. Donald Dow, Mrs. George McGee, Mrs. Barry Mason; observer represent­ ative, Gordon McBurney; auditors Mrs. George McGee and Mrs. Donald Dow. Discussion followed on a num- ber of topics, the amount of insurance coverage on the church buildings and contents, the child­ ren’s Sunday service which is held once a month, the new pulpit and antependium that the United Church Women want to purchase and the 30th anniversary of the Calvin-Brick congregation that occurs next year in 1988. A vote of thanks was extended to Rev. Roberts for his work during the year. The meeting closed with the benediction, followed by a social half hour. Local peopleattend Presbyterial Mrs. Pete Peterson, Mrs. Don­ ald Dow and Mrs. John Jamieson of Calvin-Brick United Church and Mrs. William Coultes; Mrs. Har­ old Vincent and Mrs. Gordon Bosman of Knox United Church attended the Huron-Perth Presby- terial U.C.W. annual meeting in Main Street United Church, Mit­ chell on Monday, January 26. Mr. and Mrs. Vince Makas and Alicia of London spent the week­ end with Mrs. Kenneth Wheeler. Mrs. Ethel Wheeler of Woodley Home, Wroxeter, spent Sunday at the same home. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bolger of Walton visited on Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Johnston. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Leitch and Jeff of Waterdown spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grasby. Brittany MacLennan of Listowel visitedon the weekend with her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. George Michie. Friends and neighbours of this community extend sympathy to Mrs. Lila Higgins in the loss of her sister Mrs. Abner (Annie) Nethery of the Pinecrest nursing Home, Lucknow who passed away Sun­ day, February 1 at University Hospital, London.
