A rare Tuesday night game had them playing Drayton. The first period of hockey was a scoreless one. A minuteandahalfof the second Sports Bulls beat Clinton, tie Mt. Brydges BYLOISMcARTER The Brussels Bulls played two away games this past week. Friday night they played in Clinton against the Mustangs. Clinton opened the scoring getting two goals in the first 10 minutes of play to take the lead. Brussels got on the scoreboard at 8:31 when Dave Harding scored from Brian Campbell. Tim Fritz scored at 5:22 from Mike Chapman and Paul Robinson to tie the game. Fritz scored from Todd Hutton just two minutes later for the go-ahead goal, but Clinton came back to score at 2:40 and tie the game once more. Brussels ended the first period intheleadwhenKevin Me Arter scored the go-ahead goal on a pass from Todd Hutton. The Bulls controlled the second period with goalie Pat Chambers being sharp in net after replacing injured goalie Jeff Du pee at the end of the first period. Tim Fritz, Murray Houghton and Todd Hutton combined for a goal at 13:03 of the second. Rob Cardiff scored from Fritz at 8:14 on a power play effort. The third goal of the period came from Fritz and Cardiff at 4:59 to give Brussels a 7 - 3 lead at the end of the second. The third period had Todd Hution scoring at 15:25 from Kevin McArter and Paul Robinson. End- to-end play continued until 6:33 when Cardiff, Fritz and McArter combined to score for the Bulls. Clinton scored once more at 1:54 before the period ended giving Brussels the 9 - 4 victory. TIEMT.BRYDGES5-5 The Bulls were on the road again Sunday for a 7:30 game in Mt. Brydges. The Bulldogs scored early in the period to take the lead but p.m. Brussels Pee Wees beat Harriston 7-3 The only minor hockey game reported this week came from the Peewees. They were at home on Friday night to the squad from Harriston. They managed to chalk up a 7 - 3 victory over the visitors, something that hasn’t come to them too often this season. Brad Taylor scored the first three Brussels’ goals. The first two were unassisted with Darren John­ Employment preparation planned The Huron County Board of Education has approved a resolu­ tion to negotiate an agreement with Conestoga College to provide an adult academic upgrading and employment preparation program in central Huron. The course could accommodate 15 adults and would likely be located at Central Huron Secon­ dary School in Clinton. The course would be federally funded. It was requested by the Canada Employment and Immi­ gration Centre in Goderich as the period had been played when Drayton scored the first goal. Just three minutes later Dave Stephen­ son scored from Ken Cousins to tie the score. Drayton scored at 12:15 to go ahead once more. Jim Campbell scored on a pass from Ken Higgins at 6:49 to tie the score Brussels’ Dave Harding scored at 12:21 from Paul Robinson to tie the score. Doug Taylor added another goal for Brussels on a pass from Tim Fritz to hold a 2 -1 lead at the end of the first period. Mt. Brydges scored at 12:13 of the second period to tie the score in the see-saw battle. Kevin McArter scored from Doug Taylor and Tim Fritzat 10:23 to put Brussels ahead once more. The Bulls allowed themselves to be intimidated on some rather slack officiating and played the most of the period short-handed, which showed on the scoreboard. Mt. Brydges scored three unanswered goals to take a 5 - 3 lead at the end of the second period. Brussels players cleaned up their act in the third period and played hockey. It was 11:52 before Ke vin Johnston beat the goalie on a pass from Brian Campbell. Marty Rutledge blistered a shot on a pass from Rob Cardiff, at the goalie which he dropped from his glove and back into the net for the tying goal Marty almost had the winning goal when a similar shot dropped from the goalie’s glove and rolled just past the goal post. The game ended in a 5 - 5 tie. The Bulls played their hockey games this weekend without coach Joe Steffler who is hospitalized. We hope the rest will put every­ thing back in order and the team and fans all wish him a speedy recovery. The Bulls will be at home for two games this week. Friday night will have them at home to the Mitchell Hawks for a 9 p.m. game. Sunday afternoon will have them at home to the Seaforth Centennaires at 2 ston assisting on the third. Dan Beuerman scored from Greg Mul­ vey and Brett Lee on Brussels fourth goal. Goal number five came from Greg Mulvey and Brett Lee while Ross Machan scored the sixth from Kevin Alcock. The final goal was scored by Greg Mulvey from Brad Taylor. Less than half of the third period remained when Dave Golley scor­ ed from Kevin Deitner and Jim Campbell to cushion the lead for the crusaders. Ken Cousins assist­ ed by Dave Stephenson and Mike Watson scored at 5:02 to complete the scoring and give Brussels the 5 2 victory. BRUSSELS SWAMPS MONKTON The Intermediates played at home on Sunday afternoon, in the absence of the Bulls, against the Monkton Wildcats. Brussels open­ ed the scoring at 12:50 wit hJim Campbell finding the mark on a pass from Dave Montgomery and Brian Deitner. Monkton scored just 20 seconds later to tie the score. The Wildcats went ahead at 4:23 but Brussels came back with just 14 seconds left on the clock as Dave Stephenson scored from Mike Watson to end the first period in a tie. Brussels claimed the second Help! Dave Montgomery assisted by Brian Deitner and Jim Campbell scored 30 seconds into the period and then Dave scored his four straight goals, in a span of eight minutes. Kevin Deitner assisted by Rob Core and Brian Tenpas completed the scor­ ing for the period at the 7:48 mark. Monk ton scored their one and only goal of the period at 16:56 of the period and then Brussels let loose with six more goals before the period ended, three of those goals coming inthelastminuteand41 seconds of the period. Scoring those goals were Kevin Deitner with two while singles went to Peter Bennett, Jim Camp­ bell, Dave Montgomery and Brian Tenpas. Assists went to Dave Stephenson with four, Ken Cou­ sins, three, Brian Deitner, two, Dave Montgomery, one, Jim Campbell, one. Dave Stephenson scored five goals in the game and Kevin Deitner scored a hat-trick. The Intermediates will be in Milverton on Friday night at 9 p. m.
