Murray Gaunt, 42-year-old Lib-
eral incumbent in the Ontario
Legislature, won a very decisive
victory in the riding of Huron-
Bruce in last Thursday's provincial
election. What was' predicted in
some circles to be a close race in
Huron-Bruce, proved to be a
walkaway for Mr. Gaunt over the
Conservative candidate, N. J.
"Sam" MacGregor of Kincardine
and the N.D.P. candidate, David
Zyluk of Kincardine.
Gaunt had a majority of 9833
over MacGregor. Murray Gaunt
polled 17,356., Sam MacGregor
7523 and David Zyluk 1754.
Mr. Gaunt's majority over Cori-
servatiye William Walden of Wing-
ham, in the 1975 election, was
10,393.
It was a satisfying victory for
Murray Gaunt who has served
Huron-Bruce as its member for 15
years. He was first elected to the
Legislature in a by-election in 1962
following the death of John Hanna.
His margin at that time was 700. A
year later, in the 1963 general
election he managed to hold onto a
victory by a 25 majority. He had a
majority of 3191 in 1967, 86.18 in.
1971, 10,393 in 1975 and last
week's majority of 9833.
- Murray Gaunt is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Andrew Gaunt of West
Wawanosh. ,He, his wife Pat and
two children, Stephanie and Stev-
en, reside in Wingham.
