It was a 50th anniversary reunion for the big school with about 3,000 former students retur*g. Of special interest to the people of Ripley was the section labelled "Teacher". This featured a picture of Gordon Munn, head of the math depart- ment, who retires this month after 31 years on the staff. Before that Gordon, a graduate of Ripley Schools and Western University in London, was a Meteorologist with the Canadian Navy in the war. Besides heading the Math depart- ment, Gord has coached the football teams and drilled the cadets. During the three decades at the school, he has watched the trend towards liberal education - a' trend he feels that cheats the medium and good student. "I think the trend has short changed the medium and good students who have no more challenges or objectives because under the present system no one fails". The trend, he said, will ultimately • result in lack of job satisfaction and wishy-washy self discipline. In regard to Math, Gord says "It teaches you to stick to a task, to find ways to do it and to state your case logically". Gordon is pictured at the blackboard in a "make believe lesson" in geOmet- ry. Gordon and his wife Dorothy plan to spend their time between Stoney Creek and their cottage at Bruce Beach. Congratulations and best wishes go to Gordon on his retirement.
