Mr. and Mrs. Howard Bennett of Toronto spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Art Haldenby. We are sorry to report that Mrs. Haldenby is confined to the house with an attack of shingles. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Rick Cranston (Ruth Eckenswiller), who were married on Saturday. We welcome them to the village, where they will be residing in the George Haldenby home. He was a patient in the Wingham and District Hospital for a few days before returning home. Bill Burt returned home after being a patient in the Kincardine and District Hospital for a . few days. Mrs. William Haldenby returned home from the Wingham and District Hospital, where she has been a patient. Ralph Haldenby and son Bill of Guelph spent a fe‘, days with Mr. and Mrs. William Haldenby. Mrs. John Barr and Miss Winnifred Percy of here, Mrs. Dorothy Thompson of Kincardine and Earl Percy of Matheson were recent dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Graham at Lucknow. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Percy of. St. Catharines, Donald Barr of Water- loo and Miss Winnifred Percy visited with Mrs. Jcphn Barr. Mrs. Tom MacDonald returned home from Kitchener, where she visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ron Young and with Tom in the K & W Hospital. She also visited with her mother, Mrs. Joseph Guest, who is a patient in the Wingham and District Hospital. William Haldenby had a medical checkup at University Hospital, London, on Friday. We were pleased to know that he got a good report. The many friends of Tom MacDonald are pleased to know he is making favourable progress following surgery on Friday last. Anne and the children came home Tuesday. Relatives from this area attended a bridal shower for Miss Margaret Sach, bride of the month, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Thompson of Purple Grove on Sunday afternoon. A happy family gathering was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ken MacDonald on Sunday to celebrate Carl's 4th birthday and Lisa's 2nd birthday. Relatives present were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Yeandle, Mr. and Mrs. Rick Poser, Richard Yeandle and Miss Anna Houde, all of Kitchener. Birthday greetings are extended to the "wee" folks from all of us here. Mr. and Mrs. George Graham, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Lane, Janet, Joyce and Judy were dinner guests on Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Nicholson and Lois, and visitors at the same home on Saturday evening were Mr. and Mrs. Chris Stark of Kincardine. Sincerely, MURRAY GAUNT GAUNT HAS EXPERIENC 4-H Conference At Guelph Two hundred girls from across Ontario will, 'learn to do by doing' at the .22nd annual 4-H Homemak- ing Club Girls' Conference at the University of Guelph, June 21 and 24. "The theme of the conference, "Signposts for the Future", should help girls develop leadership skills, and broaden their experience for. the future," says Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food regional home economics supervisor, Lor- raine Holding. The delegates. ages 16 to 26, are senior club members selected by county home economists on the basis of leadership qualities and workmanship as displayed in local 4-H activities. Miss Holding says a quota system, based on the number of participants in the homemaking club program, determines the number of representatives from each district. "The conference is geared toward developing responsible members of local clubs, the community, and the provincial organization." Miss Molly McGhee, Director of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food Home Economics Branch, will be the theme speaker. Other activities will include an address by Dr. W: C. Watson, London, Ontario, on "Medicine and the Modern Ms," career discussions, cooking and specialty workshops and fitness sessions. The 4-H Homemaking Clubs are study and work clubs for rural young women aged 12 to 26. They are sponsored by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food' Home Economics Branch. In Ontario, about 16,500 girls participate in 4-H Homemaking Clubs. The delegates from this area are: Heather Boyle, R. R. 3 Ripley; June Alton, , Wingham; Donna Elphick, R. R. 3 Lucknow.
