University held at the Kitchener-
Waterloo Auditorium on Sunday,
May 29.

Couple 50 Years Married School Tax Up 9 Mills, Township Close To 5 Mills
May 24, 1927 at the family home on
the second of Kinloss. Mrs. Tiffin
is the former Jean Dawson.
The couple farmed for many
years on the 4th of Kinloss, just
east of Langside. Since 1961 they
have lived at Whitechurch. Their
home is on highway 86 at the
eastern outskirts of the village.

An event of considerable import-
ance in the educational field in the
Strathroy area recently saw the
opening of a new addition to the
Adelaide-W. G. MacDonald Public
School.
The school, located at Adelaide
Village near Strathroy, is believed
to be the only one of its kind on the •
continent, designed specially to
provide integrated facilities for the
trainable retarded and students
without disabilities. There are no
visible divisions within the class-
room to indicate which type of pupil
is in what classroom.

is sponsoring a foster child in San
Jose, Costa Rica, it being the
second largest Central, American
republic.
Ruth Jacqueline Alvardo is
fourteen years old and is in grade
eight. She goes to school at Colegio
Monterrey, a combination primary
and secondary school. Her favour-
ite subject is Mathematics and
favourite sport is basket ball. She
also studies Spanish, conversation-
al English. science, history and
joins arts and handicraft classes..
The Kinettes make it possible for
Ruth to receive an education along
with better food and medical care.
Ashfield Township has set their
tax rates for the year 1977.
Total mill rate for the public
school supporters is '137.15 'and
separate school 137.45.
The Township mill rate increase
is. 4.7 mills and the Huron County
Board of Education 9 mills.

At Pinecrest
Mrs. Don (Margaret) Cameron of
Lucknow has been named Director
of Nursing at Pinecrest Manor
Nursing Home in Lucknow.
Mrs. G,:orge (Mary) Newbold
retired about four weeks ago after
serving in this capacity for over 16
years. Mr. and Mrs. Newbold
purchased Pinecrest Manor on
Gough Street from Harold Greer
over sixteen years ago and 21/2
years ago the new home on Bob
Street opened.
Mrs. Cameron had been employ-
ed as a registered nurse at
Pinecrest, and to qualify her for the
Director of Nursing position, she
completed the Canadian Hospital
Association Extension CourSe in
Extended Care Organization and
Management.
Mrs. Bert Alton
Gets Agricultural
Service Diploma
At the May meeting of the
Lticknow Agricultural Society, Mrs.
Bob (June) Gilchrist, president of
the Ladies Division, presented
Mrs. Bert (Jessie) Alton with an
Agricultural, Service Diploma. With
a few well chosen words June
expressed appreciation to Jessie
for the many years she has
contributed to the Society. Jesie
fittingly replied and said the
diploma was one she appreciated.
The Craft Festival Posters made
by pupils from Lucknow, Kinloss,
Kingsbridge and Brookside were
judged at this meeting.
The results were as follows:
Grade 7 and 8, 1st Joanne Culbert,
2nd Elizabeth Wilkins, 3rd Lisa
Gibson, all from Brookside.
Grades 5 and 6;,Ist Marc Ackert,
2nd Dale Hayes, 3rd Wendy
Forster, all from Kinloss.
Many other posters were deem-
ed worthy of a prize.
The District meeting for #10 will
be held at Arran Tara on June 8th.

Stamp Sells
For $725
Reg Powell of Kinlough and
Milliken attended a stamp auction
in Toronto in mid May. There were
about 1000 lots offered.
One particular item attracted the
eye of Reg. It was an envelope from
Lucknow post marked April 6th,
1874. The stamp on the envelope
was a 6c yellow brown 'Queen
Victoria diagonal bisect. The stamp
is catalogued as 39A. The auction-
eer had placed a net estimate of
$400 plus on the stamp.
The price went well over that
amount and finally sold for $725 to
a philatelist from London, England.
This year's rate, with last year's
in brackets, is as follows:

Allan Roderick Andrew of Luck-
nbw graduated with honours from
the University of Guelph on May
27th. He received his degree in
Bachelor of Science in' Agriculture,
majoring in Animal Science. He
also received the Bruce County
Graduation Award presented by
the Warden of Bruce County.

were in attendance, at the convoca-

Bikeathon
This Saturday
A Bikeathon, sponsored by
Lucknow Minor Hockey, will be
held this Saturday, June 4th. The
route is 40 miles long and
participants will start from C & M
Transport between 8 and 10 a.m.
There will be eight check points
along the route where participants
"will be "fed and watered".
Kinettes Mrs. Barry Hackett and
Mrs. Archie De Groote took
registrations at Kingsbridge,
Brookside and Lucknow Schools on
Monday this week, but further
registration will be taken between 8
and 10 a.m. the morning of the
bike-a-thon.
Each participant will receive a
map of the route and anyone who
finishes the mile route will
receive a silvei dollar.
Proceeds Will go for arena
renovations with emphasis on the
installation of safety glass.
Anyone needing more informa-
tion or who isn't a sponsor and
would like to donate, should
contact Mrs. Barry Hackett or
Wayne Jerome.
Service clubs and other organiza-
tions in the area are assisting the
Minor Hockey League in the
planning and the work involved.
Received Degree
Mrs. Tony Bedford of Missis-
sauga has received her I3achelor of
Arts Degree, majoring in Sociol-
ogy, from Wilfred Laurier Univer-
sity, Waterloo. Convocation was
held on Sunday, May 29 at the
Kitchener Auditorium.
Mrs. Bedford is the former
Sharon Stanley, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Ezra Stanley of Lucknow.

MacDonald, the director of educa-
tion for the area reminded the
gathering that Graham had been
responsible for organizing the first
opportunity classes in Lambton
County when he was a school
inspector, as well as organizing the
first remedial classes in Lambton
