Walter Clark of Waterford visited
with Mr. and Mrs. George Gra-
ham.
Congratulations to Rev. and
Mrs. Gerald Thompson on the birth
of a daughter.
Ladies from the Presbyterian
W.M.S. attended, the Presbyterial
at Whitechurch on Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. John Scott, Edna
and May Boyle visited at the
Hopper-Hockey Funeral Home at
Exeter on Thursday evening,
where their cousin, the late
Andrew Carter's remains were
resting.
Holyrood Women's Institute was
the hostess branch for the Bruce
South District meeting which was
held on Tuesday at the Lucknow
United Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Phillips of
Fonthill spent the weekend with
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Maulden and
Keith.
Mr. and Mrs. George Burt and
Michael of Oshawa were home with
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Burt for the
holiday.
Mr. and Mrs. Campbell Brown of
Strathroy spent the holiday week-
end with Hugh Lane and other

Ripley W.I.
Mrs. George Fisher, president of
Bruce South District Women's
Institute was introduced as guest
speaker by Mrs. Donald Blue at the
Ripley Women's Institute on Fri-
day, May 8th. Public Relations was
the subject chosen -by Mrs. Fisher.
She stated that a Public Relations
Officer must be an interested
person and should make herself
known to editors and make sure
meetings are well advertised. A.
P.R.O. may be in office for 6 years
but elected each year. When
reporting in the paper at least two
initials and the last name should be
used. In the list of officers the
P.R.O.'s name should appear after
the sectretary treasurer's name.
There will be a P.R.O. workshop in
Whitechurch on June 13th.
Mrs. Nick Peet gave a full report
on her 2 days at Officers'
Conference held at the University
of Waterloo where more than 490
delegates from across the province
met. Mr. A. R. Walker from the
ministry's business practices divi-
sion spoke and told the meeting
that it is up to the consumers to
learn the laws to know just how
much protection he has as a
consumer. He told of the "steady
flow" of consumer legislation, such
as the cooling off period that allows
consumers two working days to
return anything bought door-to-
door and the requirements that
interest rates must now be
displayed when a contract is
signed. Another speaker at the .
Humanities Theatre was Miss
Molly McGhee, Director of the
Home Economics branch' of the
Provincial Ministry of Agriculture
and Food. She praised the Wom-
en's Institute for supplying leaders
for numerous 4-H clubs ' and
projects. 'She urged members to
continue the work that began 80
years ago when the first Women's
Institute was formed at Stoney
Creek.
Mrs. Walter Lock reported that a
stage curtain and door drapes were
purchased for the Township Hall

and will arrive soon. Tickets will be
sold on the guilt made by the W.I.
The proceeds of the quilt will be
used to help pay for curtains for the
hall. The draw will, be made at the
Agricultural Society, Concert on
June 3rd. A donation was given to
the Agricultural Fair Board. An
invitation to Purple Grove W.I. was
received for June 1st at 8 o'clock.
Mrs. Mary Pollock is in charge of
arranging Tuck Shop helpers at
hospital. A community Tartan Tea
Will be held on Wednesday, June
8th to assist the Hospital Auxiliary.
Mrs. Donald Blue and Mrs. Ross
Martyn conducted a sing song. A
soap contest was held and a
reading from the Lucknow paper
was given by Mrs. Donald Blue.
Mrs. Ross Cumming, the presid-
ent, reported that the District
Annual will be in Lucknow on May
17th and that Ripley has an
entertainment number for the a.m.
sessions.
The meeting in June will be on
Agriculture and Canadian Indus-
tries. The roll call will be "Give
y9ur opinion on the amalgamation
of Huron and Ripley Councils". A
cake decorating demonstration will
be held. Directors are asked to call
the members each month remind-
ing them of the meeting. Mrs.
Kirkpatrick reported that $729.00
had been collected by W.I.
members in Ripley and Purple
Grove for the Cancer Society. A
poem on Mother's Day was read by
Mrs. Ross Cumming. Mrs. Jack
McLean gave the courtesies.

SOCCER
Ripley girls competed in a soccer
tournament on May 10 in Kincard-
ine. Our first game was against
Kincardine which we lost 2-1. Our
second game was against Sacred
Heart' which we managed to win
with a score of 3-0. By the end of
the day, Ripley ended up in third
position.
PROM
The grade 11 decorating com-
mittee which consisted of 10
students had a very busy week
getting ready for our spring prom
on Friday, • May 13. This year's
theme was "Feelings of Love".
The gym was decorated with
streamers of silver, white and
green and centred by a 10 foot
replica of the lighthouse at Point
Clark. The back wall of the gym
had a beautifully painted sunset
and an actual running waterfall
along with a sailboat. Trees,
flowers and rocks completdd the
scenery. As per tradition, at
midnight our king and queen were
chosen from the grade 13 students.
This year's king and queen were
Priscillia Zipfel and Ken MacKay.

Hodgins of Wingham, Mrs. Irene
MacKenzie of Moosejaw, Saskatch-
ewan, and Miss Barbara Bruce of

We extend sympathy to Mr. and
Mrs. Midford Wall and family in
the death of his sister Ethel.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Shaw and
Wendy spent Monday at Midland.

students went to Stratford to see
the play "A Midsummer Night's
Dream at the Shakespearian festiv-
al. The students usually attend the
festival every spring and fall as
part of their English course.
