The funeral of Mrs. Margaret
MacKenzie, the former Margaret
MacKay of this community, was
held Thursday afternoon, with
burial in Lochalsh cemetery.
Sympathy of the community is
extended to relatives.

boy at Wingham Hospital.
Members of the Elphick families
attended the funeral' of their ,
cousin's husband, who passed
away following a car accident,
while returning home from work
near Niagara. Randy Martin was
the husband of Iona Leeson, who
was raised in the Purple Grove
area. Sympathy is extended the

RECEIVES AWARDS
At the 4-H Achievement Day on
Saturday last (May 7th) in Ripley,
Mrs. Joyce Elphick and Mrs. Fran
Elphick received leaders awards
and Miss Annette Elphick received
her 12 project award with Miss
Lynn Elphick receiving ,her County
Honours award.
Sunday morning, service at
Ashfield Presbyterian Church was
conducted by Rev. Nugent and
attended by the Lucknow MaSons,
of which Mr. Doug Martyn is the
Worshipful Master.
Baptism services were held on
Mother's Day at Ashfield Presby-
terian Church when Scott Martyn,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Dodg Martyn

petition is entering its final two
weeks before your entries should
be in so let us remind everyone
again of the classes open for
competition as of June 1:
Class 1 - Most improved farm-
stead and entrance.
Class 2 - Most improved rural
dwelling and grounds.
Class 3 - Most improved urban
dwelling and grounds.
Will thy entries will share in the
prize money that is now being ob-
tained through grants 'from each
local "municipality. There will be
a County Champion in each class
plus winners prizes in each
Township. A prize list will be sent
to all who enter as soon as avail-
able prize money and prizes is
known.
Participants in the past have
been well rewarded for their en-
deavors and- tn6 pride and_
amount of achievement you ac-
complish will be shared by your
neighbors and appreciated by all
visitors to the county.
With the help of all the resi-
dents of Huron County 1978's
Farmstead and Home Improve-
ment Committee know their
competition will be bigger and

On Saturday, May 14th Mrs.
Donald Hackett of Ashfield Town-
ship held a tea in honour of their
daughter Darlene's forthcoming
marriage to Ivan Wattam.
Darlene and Mrs. Hackett re-
ceived the guests in the afternoon,
assisted by Miss Carol Wattam in
the evening. Miss Susan Brooks
and Mrs. Wilma Blake showed
' Darlene's trousseau and shower
gifts in the afternoon and Miss
Rosalea Hackett helped in the
evening. Miss Donna Hackett
showed the wedding gifts.

white carnations centred the tea

Kitchener, maternal grandmother
of the bride poured tea in the
afternoon with Lynne Cumming
and Sharon Alton serving the

a number of showers prior to her
marriage. On April 28th her
girl friends from her home com-
munity held a suppe. party at •Joan
Hackett's home, presenting her
with an ironing board, pad and
cover and clothes basket; April
16th Miss Carol Wattam held a
couples shower at her home in
Listowel; Mrs. Norman Wattam
held a family and neighbour's
shower in her home April 23rd;
Mrs. Chester Hackett, Mrs. Ken-
neth Alton, Mrs. David Hackett
and Mrs. Arnold Campbell looked
after a community shower held in
Trinity Church basement on May
7th. Mrs. Barry Hackett, assisted
by Darlene's aunts, held a family
shower in her home on May 10th.
