A tornado, which ripped through
the south of Huron County doing
serious damage and taking the life
of an 80-year-old Dublin man, had
less serious effects on this area but
did result in thF Dungannon phone
system being put out of operation
for, a time.
A community credit union for the
illage of Lucknow and surround-
ing four townships of West
Wawanosh, Ashfield, Kinloss and
Huron, was organized :locally.
Several more than the required
twenty-two charter members were
secured.
William McCreath of Ripley
purchased the McLennan Funeral
Home of that village from Neil
McLennan. The new business was
known as the McLennan-McCreath
Funeral Home.
Marie Brooks opened a hair-
dressing, business in Dungannon.

MAY 1947
Herby Drennan Of Ashfield was
richer by $400 for his good fortune
in bagging a female wolf and her
litter of nine pups.
A Hammond electric organ was
installed in the Lucknow Presbyter-
ian Church. The memorial organ
was heard for the first time at the
church's 57th anniversary and was
dedicated by Rev. C. H. MacDon-
ald, Rev. W. A. Henderson of
Hillsdale was guest minister and
guests soloists were Mrs. W. A.
Henderson and Cameron Geddes.
Because it was mid-May didn't
mean that , the snow was all gone.
Torrance's sideroad, just east of
the village was still impassable for
motor cars with five feet of snow
reported to be still filling the cut to
the south of the railroad crossing.
Behind the cottages along the lake
front, piles of snow from 10 to 12
feet high was still quite common.
Tremendous banks of snow had
piled up around the cottages during
the winter and in some cases
almost covering them over.

Graudation exercises for 1977
class of Knox College is being held
at Convocation Hall on Wednesday
evening. Attending from here will
be Mr. Bev Kay, a graduate, Mrs.
Kay, Graham and Wendy.
The Y.P.S. met at Langside
Church Sunday evening. David
Ross presided for the worship
service. The topic was Psalm 100
with question discussion. It was,
decided to have a pancake supper
at the Community Hall June 4.
Grace was sung and lunch served
to the 15 attenders.
We are sorry to report that Mrs.
Christopher, owing to a fall, was.
admitted to Wingham Hospital on
Sunday. The community wishes
her a speedy recovery.
