The regular meeting of St.
Helens Women's Institute was held
in the hall on March 3rd at 2 p.M.
The president Mrs. Peter
Chandler• welcomed all present and
the meeting opened with the Ode
followed by the Mary . Stewart
Collect in unison.
The roll call "What I like or
dislike about rural living" was
answered by 16 members: The
secretary Mrs. James Aitchison
and Margie Lockhead of Kincard-
ine. John Collins of Waterloo was
home with his parents from
Thursday till Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Archie Manners
and Chris of Chesley. spent Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thompson,
Robbie and Todd.

Pollock, regular mail man
for this area, will resume his duties
on Monday. Ivan spent the winter
in London while Don Dore ran the
mail route.
Many folks from here attended
the Skateathon in Ripley on
Saturday. Most went as spectators
but some of the youngsters skated.
Marty Bolte spent the weekend
with Ian Elliott, who was up to the
farm from Windsor.
Wishes for a speedy return home
is extended to little Raechel Van
Rooyan, infant, daughter of Marg-
areth and Bill Van Rooyan, who is a
patient in Owen Sound Hospital,

Died In 97th Year
MRS. A. R. FINLAYSON
Mrs. A. R. Finlayson of Lucknow
passed away at Pinecrest Manor
Nursing Home on Wednesday,
March 2nd in her 97th year.
She was the, former Mary Ann
Cameron and last surviving Mem-
ber of a family of seven sons and
five daUghters born to Roderick
Cameron and his wife Annie
Douglas. She was born in Ashfield
Township on October 5, 1880.
On June 28', 1911 she married
Alexander R. Finlayson of Ashfield
Township. They resided at
Lochalsh, coming to Lucknow' in
1915 when Mr. Finlayson purchas-
ed the building on the corner of
Campbell and Ross.Street and went
into business, which was of later
years taken over by his sons. Mr.
Finlayson passed away on October
6, 1934..
Mrs. Finlayson has been a
resident of Pinecrest Manor for the
past year and a half. She is
survived by four sons and two
daughters, Roy of Lucknow, Clark
of London, Cameron of Willowdale;
Mrs. Tom (Christine) Caster,
Donald and Aniia, all of Toronto;
also eight grandchildren and four
great grandchildren.
The funeral service was held at
MacKenzie Memorial Chapel,
Lucknow, on . Friday, March. 4th.
Rev. Finlay McCormick of Chesley
was minister. Mrs. Finlayson was
a member of Lochalsh Presbyterian
Reformed Church.
Pallbearers were her four sons
Roy, Clark, Cameron and Donald, a'
son-in-law Thomas Caster; , and
William R. Matheson of Chesley.
Temporary entombtoent was at
South Kinloss Mausoleum with
final resting place Lochalsh Cemet-
ery:

Visitors last week with Mr. and
Mrs. John Farrell and Teresa were
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Geddes and
faniily of Kincardine, Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Wright and Mr. and Mrs. Tim
Rider of Toronto. ,Also spending a
few days with the Farrells was Miss
Linda White of Plymouth,. Michi-
gan. Linda also spent a few days
with Mr. and Mrs. Don McCosh in
Ripley.
Miss Kerry Boyle of Hamilton
spent last week at her home. Kerry
had the week off from school to
study.
Miss • Bonnie Boyle spent the
weekend in Kitchener as a guest of
Miss Connie Rempel.
Mr. and Mrs. Chris Stark of
Kincardine were dinner guests on
Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil
Sutton and family.
The Women's Institute met at
the home of Mrs. Jack Farrell on
Wednesday. Guest speaker, Mrs.
Judy Giddis spoke on Sheep
Farming.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Forster
visited on Friday evening with Mr.
and Mrs. Art Collins and family
and on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs.
Walter Forster.
Folks in this area will be pleased
to hear Miss Margaret Robertson
was released from Wingham Hosp-
ital last weekend. Visiting with
Margaret on Sunday were Mr. and
Mrs. Don Robertson. Mrs. Martha
Huston of Ripley is also visiting
her sister this week.
The World Day of Prayer was
held on Friday at Kinlough
Presbyterian Church.
Jim Dore of Wingham spent the
weekend with his parents here.
Mrs. Victor Gawley was a guest
on Sunday of Mrs. Mable Hewitt of
Kincardine.
Visiting on Sunday with Mr. and

chairman and June Gilchrist secret-
ary.
The minutes of the past meeting
were read and a former active
committee member; Barry John-
ston, gave an outline of efforts of
committee members in the past few
years.
Suggestions for the coming year
were: organizing a slow pitch ball
league for men and, or ladies;
washroom facilities for local ball
diamonds; program of "Introduc-
tion to Gymnastics"; picnic tables
and waste disposal sites in areas of
the township; developing a nature
trail and park.
The next meeting is to be held on
March 31 at 8 p.m. in the same
location. Committee,, members
welcome any suggestions or new
ideas to help make the community
an area where recreation is alive
and may be enjoyed by all.

assistant secretary's reports were
given. The correspondence was
read and dealt with. • All sang
"Galway Bay", and "When Irish
Eyes are Smiling".
In charge of the card, parties are
March 17th Group' '1, March 31st
Group 2, April 7th Group 3. The
Branch Directors, Mrs. Frank
Mewhinney, Mrs. Allan Cranston
and Mrs. Mike Naylor are in charge
of the slate of officers for 1977 and
78. The annual meeting is April
7th in the form of a pot luck dinner.
Mrs. Frank McQuillin presided
for the program. A reading,
"March - The month you can't
trust" was given by Mrs. Robt.
Aitchison.'
Mrs. Ross Errington prepared
the topic on "Corn" and its many
Uses and also on "Canning". A
reading "Interim." was given by
Mrs. Gordon McPherson.
The motto, "If you cannot have
the best, make the best of what you
have", was prepared by Miss
Isobel Miller. Mrs. Ernest Gaunt
gave a reading, "Desiderata".
Current Events were enjoyed,
given by Mrs. Harold Gaunt. Mrs.
"Frank McQuillin gave a reading on
TV Land.
A donation is being made to the
St. Helens light fund. Plans are
being made for the Institute
banquet in April.
The meeting closed with 0
Canada and the Institute grace.
Mrs. Ernest Gaunt and Mrs. Frank
McQuillin served a delicious lunch.
