R. 3 Goderich, a senior division winner in the Kinsmen Club Heritage Day Essay contest. Marianne was presented with a painting done by Cornelius Kristoff.by Mr. Warren Robinson, teacher in the English Department at the Goderich District Collegiate Institute, on Monday evening, February 28th at the Kinsmen meeting held at the Saltford Valley Hall. The first meeting of the Kings- bridge 4-H club was held on Tuesday, March 1st at Mrs. Van Osch's home. Election of officers is as follows: president, Jackie Van- Osch; vice president, Ann. Dren- nan; secretary, Joanne VanOsch; preis reporter, rotation by two girls a week. Roll call was answered by 14 girls. We discussed our record books, contents of sewing box, choosing clothes for leisure. Mrs. Scott demonstrated how to altar the shoulder length. Mrs. VanOsch demonstrated the measuring tech- niques. For group work the . girls paired off and measured each other, determining their size. We decided to have the next meeting in the spring break when a name will be decided for the club. The meeting 'was closed with the 4-H motto by the president. 'On Thursday afternoon, March 10th beginning at 1 p.m, the students in grades 5, 6, 7, and 8, who did not 'give their speeches in the gym, will now compete in the Garvey competitions. Parents are welcome. An open reception for Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hogan is planned to be held at the Saltford Valley Hall on Saturday, March 12th. Music for dancing will be supplied by Carruther's Orchestra. Miss Valerie Shackleton, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Benson Shack- leton, R. R. 1 Dungannon, began employment in Hanover as a hair stylist on Wednesday, February 16th. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Champagne, R. R. 3 Goderich on the birth of a baby girl in the Kincardine, General Hospital on Monday, February 28th. Mrs. Reis Miltenberg, a patient in Victoria Hospital, London was able to return to her -home here on Wednesday, March ,,2nd. Joe Courtney was admitted to St. Joseph's . Hospital, London on Sunday afternoon, March 6th, where surgery was performed the following day to remove a cataract from the eye. Members of St. Joseph's Church, Kingsbridge joined with area churches at the Lucknow Presbyterian Church on Friday, March 4th for the annual World Day of Prayer. Christian women of the German Democractic Republic prepared the World Day of Prayer for 1977 on the theme,' "Love in Action". Other churches taking part were the Lucknow Anglican; the Lucknow United; Trinity Unit- ed; St. Helens; South Kinloss Presbyterian;- Christian Reformed and St. Marys Catholic, Lucknow. Readers taking part from Kings- bridge were Mrs. Betty Frayne and Mrs. Teresa Courtney; the guest speaker was Mrs. Ross Shiells and the guest soloist was Mrs. Philip Steer. Several from this area attended the Western Farm Show held in London during this past week. The senior basketball teams from St. Joseph's School, Kingsbridge took part in a basketball tourna- ment in Exeter on Saturday, March 26th. Driving the teams were Mrs. Park, Mrs. Zyluk and Mr. Zyluk. Basketball has never been a major sport at Kingsbridge and this is the first inter school contest that St. Joseph's, Kingsbridge has entered LUCKNOW SKATING CLUB CARNIVAL NIGHT Saturday, March 12 at 8 p.m. Lucknow Arena in this sport recently. The senior boys lost all three games that they played but the coach was pleased with the showing of the team. Kingsbridge came the closest to defeating the eventual champions, St. Michael's of Stratford. After leading by four points at Ildf time they 'were eventually beaten 28 - 1.8. Against Holy Name from St. Marys the team played poorly and lost 29 - 19. In the final game against Mount Carmel, the team rapidly dropped , behind by ten points only to score six baskets without being scored against. However, the lead swung back and forth and St. Joseph's, Kings- bridge were again defeated 32 - 30. The scorers for Kingsbridge were Steve Frayne 24 points; Ron Austin" 12 points; Mike Frayne 12 points; Dean Doherty 10 points; Marlowe Austin '5 points and Brian Drennan 4 points. On Tuesday, March 1st, Mr. David Zyluk took the grade one Religion Class to St. Joseph's Church where they were met by Father Ed Denting's, their guide, fora tour of the church. Following the tour the class and their teacher attended the Lenten Mass. The students in attendance were Patric- ia Arsenault; Lisa Card; Maurice Delbergue; Lisa Durnin; Armand. Forgett; Mary Anne Franken; Angela O'Neill; Ronald Plassch- aert; Maureen Stapleton; Colleen VanOsch and Sean Wilson. 'On Wednesday, March 2nd, Mrs. Riegling took the Kindergarten Class to Mass for Lent. Constable Bill Wilson came to the school on Wednesday, March 2nd and talked to all the grades from Kindergarten ,to Grade 8 and showed a film on "Vandalism". On Saturday, March 5th the junior volleyball students attended a Volleyball Tournament *at Goderich. Monday, -Marth 7th was a Professional ActMty Day. The theme • was "Reading and Related Activites". Students at- tending St. Joseph's School, Kingsbridge received a holiday. DUNGANNON Some people from the local congregations attended the World Day of Prayer service at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church on Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Rivett returned home on Thursday after spending the past two months at Zephyr Hills in Florida. They took a drive to see the Florida Keys while there. Shelley Rivett stayed with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Dustow, while her parents were away. Miss Debbie Vella spent the weekend visiting her friend, Miss Wanda Stokes, in Teeswater. She called on her grandfather, Earl McNee in Belmore on Sunday. The Dungannon United Church annual meeting is to be • held Monday, March 7 at 8.30 p.m. in the church. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Nicholson and Lois of Kinlough visited with Mr. and Mrs. Chris Shelton on Sunday. Miss Patsy Anderson, who nurses at . University Hospital, London, left on Friday for a month's vacation trip to California. Mr. and Mrs. John Bere, Karen and David of London spent the weekend with Mrs. Mary Bere. Other members of the family gathered for a get together on Sunday. HOLIDAY IN TRINIDAD David and Gerry Bere, who enjoyed the past two weeks in Trinidad returned home on Thurs- day. They were in Trinidad during ZION Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilkins and family had their daughter Barbara, Mrs. Jim Sheppard of Brantford, home on Sunday As it Was her birthday. Jim had other plans for the day. Her grandmoth- ers, Mrs. William IrWin and Mrs.Frances Wilkins and uncle Lloyd Irwin also celebrated Barb- ara's birthday at the Wilkins home. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Cook and family were Sunday guests at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. • Peter Cook of Lucknow. It was Janice Cook's birthday. Joan Hackett of Fanshawe Col- lege spent the winter break week at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Hackett,. Lori and Paul. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Gibson, Diane, Glen and Brenda and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gibson and Heather attended the, wedding of their niece, Rhonda Gibson at Whitechurch Presbyteritan Church the carnival and stayed with relatives of Mrs. John Bere, who showed them a good time. They left Trinidad at 5 p.m. Wednesday evening and arrived in Toronto 10.30 the same night. They spent the night with Ruth and Jim Austin in Toronto and came the rest of the way by bus on Thursday. BROOKSIDE TIMES To finish the week of Integrated Studies on the Newspaper at Brookside School, Grade 7 in room 9, under the direction of their teacher, Miss Hortense Happel put together' their, own paper, Brook- side Times, which was for sale at the school on Friday. The following is an item written by Joanne Culbert for the Brookside Times. Two dogs owned by John Maize and Howard Culbert were attacked on the night of February 17. Miss Betty Culbert, coming home from work at 9 p.m. saw Culbert's dog lying in the snowbank with a gash between his front legs. hi the morning Maizes found their dog lying in the snow in a similar state. Many neighbours have seen wolf tracks in the area. Farmers are concerned that the wolves may attack livestock. Mr. and Mrs. K. K. Dawson motored to Toronto Oh Monday to take Mr. and Mrs. John Linton (nee Karen Dawson), Alisa and Mark. The Lintons spent a couple of days in Toronto with friends and on Thursday took a plane back to their home in Edmonton. Could it be we need the township councils to take action concerning dogs running loose in the village? Two more dogs were struck on the street last week leaving two families unhappy. On Monday Jack Phillips' dog was killed on Main Street and on Saturday Irwin Storey's dog came to grief and suffered a broken leg. Mr. Harvey Alton, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Westlake of Saltford flew from Toronto airport to Birming- ham, Alabama to spent a week with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Henderson and family. Mr. and Mrs. Norris Sampson and family of Goderich spent Sunday. with Mrs. Harvey Alton. She returned to Goderich with them to spend the week with her sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Krogan and daughter Michelle of Red Deer, Alberta, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Culbert. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Culbert and Mrs. Ken Ohm and family visited Mr. and Mrs. Clair Hodgins of Stratford. Lynn Culbert of Clinton visited her parents over the weekend. on Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Kirkland visited Sunday at the home of their daughter Nancy, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Folkard of Belgrave. Mr. and Mrs. Russel Swan and family visited Thursday of last week in Wiarton at Gateway Haven with his father, Earl Swan and uncles. Mr. and Mrs. John Hunter visited at the Pinecrest Nursing' Home in Lucknow Sunday after- noon and called on her sister, Lorraine Hamilton, who came home with them for supper. Mrs. "Allan Ritchie spent Friday evening and Saturday at the home of her daughter Brenda, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Huizinga and Pauline. Mrs. Ritchie stayed with her grand- daughter while her parents attend- ed the funeral on Saturday for his sister, Mrs. Heather Lang of Guelph, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Huizinga, formerly of Amberley. KINLOUGH Mr. and Mrs. Morley Bushell of Wingham visited on Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. Don Bushell. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Graham of Lucknow spent Wednesday with Mrs. John Barr. Edna and May Boyle had a dinner on Thursday, to welcome Mrs. Gertrude Walsh home again after spending the winter months in Kincardine. Mrs. John Barr was also' a dinner guest. Mrs. Art Haldenby returned home from Toronto on Thursday evening. She has been visiting with her family there for the past two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Morley Bushell and Margaret And Mrs. John Barr visited on Saturday evening with Miss Winnifred Percy. Further word has been received from Rev. A. F. Cowan, District Representative of the Bible Soci- ety, that an additional amount has been received bringing the total amount for 1976 to $455.04 which is very gratifying. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Young and Mrs. Gertrude Walsh were dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Breckles and Angela on Saturday evening. Mrs. David Haldenby will., be hostess for the A.C.W. meeting at her home on Thursday afternoon.
