Church Presbytery met in Hanover United Church, Tuesday, February 8, with Mr. H. Bruegetnan,, chairman, opening the session , with a reading and prayer. Rev. Jas. Stockton welcomed the members to his church. Routine business was attended to. Then the four committees gathered in to their respective groups and spent an hour in discussions. The highlight 'of the gathering was "It's for You!", a multi media presentation on and by the Hamilton Conference Team: Rev. Vic 'Wilkinson, president of Hamil- ton Conference; Ted Hersey, Executive Officer; Irene Parker, Mission Officer; Dave Proctor, Personnel Officer; Marion Lade and Dora Thomson, Office staff. Ev Smith from London Conference 'staff interviewed the members of the team followed by questions and discussions on our concerns. After a bountiful dinner we re-convened to the sanctuary with devotions by Rev. Jas. Bushell, whose topic was Freedom, which is only in Christ Jesus, whose truth will set us free. Reports from the committee groups and business arising, from them continued during the afternoon. Mr. Jas. Courtney extended the courtesies for the day. The meeting adjourned to meet April 19 in Paisley. Rev. G. Williams of Harriston, closed with the benediction. The February meeting of the Senior Women's Missionary Soci- ety of the Presbyterian 'Church, Lucknow, was held on February 9th in Mrs. Noble Johnston's home, with an attendance of 33 ladies. Mrs. Morgan Henderson presid- ed and opened the meeting, reading a poem, "The Future": Following hymn 399, the aim and purpose of the W.M.S. were repeated in unison. Mrs. Sherwood gave the Bible Study, reading from John, chapter 1, "The Forerunner", after which Mrs. Henderson led in prayer. Following the singing of . "What a friend we have in Jesus", the secretary took the roll call. Announcement was made of the World Day of Prayer meeting to be held on March 4"th in the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Jas. Smith gave the Glad Tidings review. Of special interest was a tour to India and Nepal, Mrs. Verdun Mowbray reading excerpts from a letter written by John Mowbray, who is presently work- ing near that area. Mrs. Cyril Brown gave three short- readings, When Winter Comes, Hospitality, .and Valentines. Mrs. Glenn Noble gave the Mission Study from "Justice, not Charity" and told of the struggle of. millions of people, just to survive, and of the need to get rid of poverty, a few rich and a. great many poor in the 4th world. Even in our own world, there are more graduates and less jobs. Mrs. W. A, Porteous gave the courtesy remarks, thanking all who had taken part in an interesting program, and Mrs. N. Johnston for having the meeting in her home. Following the singing of hymn 582 Mrs. W. Reid gave the closing prayer. Tea was served and social hour enjoyed. LUCKNOW UNITED CHURCH Rev. Doug Kaufman Minister FEBRUARY 20TH 10 a.m. Sunday School 11 a.m. Morning Worship Nursery provided for pre-school children Jr. Congregation for 5 - 8 year old children Trinity Mrs. Russel Irvin held the February 10th meeting of Trinity United Church Women, Ashfield, at her home. Roll call was answered by 21 members giving a hymn with the word "Love", also 1 child and 1 visitor. The meeting opened with hymn "Forgive our sins as we forgive". Devotional was given by Mrs. Warren Zinn "Bigger Someone" with Mrs. Marvin Scott reading scripture from St. Matthew. Mrs. Zinn closed with prayer and hymn "Dear Lord and Father". The president, Mrs. Chester Hackett, took over and repeated the Lord's prayer in unison. The Study Book, "Indian Community in Northern Manitoba" was given by Mrs. William Andrew Jr, A skit pretended as a radio program "A Dream Come True" by Mrs. D. A. Hackett, Mrs. Frank Alton and Mrs. Harvey. Ritchie. World Day of Prayer is to be held on Marth 4th in Lucknow. Presby- terian Church. The president read a letter on Alcohol and Drug Concern, asking to help ones in need. &donation of money is to be sent now. The president suggested having a life member for this year. A secret vote from each member was taken for one member. Mrs. William Andrew Sr. was voted in and to take place at a later date. Mrs. Reg. Broome had two bible quizzes. Mrs. Warren Zinn gave the treasurer's report to date. Huron-Perth Presbyterial annual meeting held at Seaforth in January was attended by nine members. Mrs. Douglas Raynard reported on the profitable day with three different speakers and also stated there are 73 individual church groups in the Presbytery. Mrs. Donald Hackett reported on Supply work for which enough material for quilts was handed out in January to five members which formed groups to be responsible for quilting. These were completed and handed in at the February meeting. Mrs. D. A. Hackett, a social committee member, stated we are to cater to the Service Men Banquet of Lucknow on April 2nd at the Legion Hall. The ladies are thinking of spring house,decorating to be done at the manse. The meeting closed with a hymn "The Lord's My Shepherd" and lunch was served by the committee in charge. • Ruth Thompson Spoke On Africa Speaker of the February meeting of St. Peter's Anglican Church Women was Miss Ruth Thompson. She showed slides and spoke of her recent trip to Sierra Leone, Africa, where she visited with her sister. Mrs. Harold Cooper presided for the business of the meeting. Discussions were held re carpeting the pulpit area and cupboards for the vestry.. The Pancake Supper will be February 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. The roll call was answered by reading the Bible verse each member had found from a quiz.' Mrs. Tom Phillips took charge of devotions and program. Mrs. John Warren read the scripture. Matth- ew 16 starting at verse 13. Mrs. Cliff Roulston read an article by Gary Lautens, "Not a working wife in the ordinary sense". 'Lunch and a social time followed. Kinlough A.C.W. KINLOUGH NEWS Mrs.' John Scott was hostess for the February meeting of the Anglican Church Women on Thurs- day afternoon. Miss May Boyle presided and the meeting opened with a "Friendship'.' thought and extended a welcome to 12 ladies and 8 children. All joined in singing the hymn "Love divine, all love excelling". Mrs. Art Haldenby read the scripture from Romans, chapter 13, verses 1 to 10. The members prayer, prayer partners' prayer, and the Lord's prayer, were repeated in. unison. Mrs. Wayne Rhody gave a' well prepared meditation on the thought of "Friendship" and concluded with a suitable poem, The roll call was answered with the word "Love". Mrs. Art Haldenby was thanked for binding the quilt which was quilted at her home in January. Business was dealt with. The meeting was then turned over to the conveners, Mrs. Ray Collins and Mrs. Bert Nicholson, who began with a reading "Friend- liness and Love" and all joined in singing the hymn "What a friend we have in Jesus". Mrs.- Roy Collins conducted a Friendship Circle. Those taking part were Mrs. Art Haldenby, Mrs. Roy Schneller, Mrs. Roy Collins, Mts. Wayne Rhody, !Ars Ronald Thack- er, Miss May Boyle, Mrs. Stewart Lane, Miss- Edna Boyle. This was followed by a colour quiz, to get away from all of the white of winter. Mrs. Eric Thacker offered a prayer. Mrs. John Scott gave a nice reading on "Our Friends" from St. John, chapter 15, verse 15 and also a "Luncheon Food Thought" for each day of the week. A poem "Awareness" was given by Mrs. Delbert Hedley and one on "Friends" by Mrs. ROy Schneller. All joined in singing the hymn "More love to thee 0 Christ" and Mrs. Bert Nicholson gave a suitable reading on the "Art of Friendship" and of "Making Friends", and "True Friends" and expressed the courtesy remarks to the hostess. The president closed the meeting with prayer and announced the March meeting to be held at the home of Mrs. David Haldenby. Conveners, Mrs. George Graham, Miss Edna Boyle and Mrs. Art Haldenby. This will be the Lenten Quiet Day. Mrs. Midford Wall is in charge of the meditation and Mrs. Ed Green the scripture. The roll call will be a Bible verse containing the word "Spirit". Delicious refreshments were ser- ved in smorgasbord 'style and a social time was enjoyed. Pine River UCW Pine River United Church Women held the February meeting in the church with sixteen ladies taking part in a discussion on the Stewardship theme, led by Mrs. Bob Courtney. Scripture was read by Mrs. Leonard Courtney from Matthew, and the story was illustrated with a short play in a modern version. "My Task" was sung. Mrs. Jack Campbell presided over the business. The minutes and correspondence was read by Mrs. Glen Boyd. "The old fashion- ed meeting" was sung, followed by the benediction. Lunch and a social time followed. Donnybrook UCW The Donnybrook United Church Women held their February meet- ing at the home of Mrs. Edward Robinson 'on Tuesday afternoon, February 8 with 14 members present. Mrs. Glen McConnell opened the meeting with the theme "Mission of Love" followed with hymn 330. Mrs. Wm. Hardy gave, the prayer. Mrs. H. Jefferson and Mrs. R. Jefferson gave the scripture read- ings from 1st John and Proverbs. Mrs. E. Robinson gave the topic "Mission and Message" from Mission Profile. It was on Hinduism from India and a self help project, by some giving property, wells and seed etc. to help the Poor get a start. Each landowner was asked for 1/6 of his land for land gift movement. This was followed by hymn 480. Mrs. Wm. Robinson gave a reading "Slow". The offering was taken followed by prayer by Mrs. G. McConnell. Mrs. Ernest Snowden took over the business. Mrs. E. Robinson reported on. the Presbyterial meet- ing in Seaforth. A pancake supper was discussed. 'Mrs. E. Robinson closed the meeting with. prayer. Mrs. Otto Weber showed us how to make underwear during lunch hour. Mrs. W. Mason and Mrs. R. Hanna assisted the hostess with a dainty lunch. South Kinloss W.M.S. The February meeting of South Kinloss Women's Missionary Soci- ety was held Wednesday, February 9th at the home of Mrs. Bruce Hamilton. The president Mrs. Philip Steer welcomed' all and opened the meeting with a poem, "The Future", followed with the repeat- ing of the Lord's Prayer in unison. The hymn, "All the way my saviour leads me" was sung. Business was then dealt with. Members were reminded of the World Day of Prayer March 4th in the Presbyterian Church, Lucknow.' The Bible Study, A woman of the Bible (Eve), was given by Mrs. Bruce Hamilton, reading respon- sively Genesis 3 and 4 concluding with.2 poems, The Unseen Temple .and Lord of All Pots and Pans, read by Mrs. Wm. Dickie and Mrs. Harold Austin, and a prayer by Mrs. Douglas Graham. The hymn, "Follow me the Master said" was sung. Mrs. Fraser MacKinnon summarized an article from the Glad Tidings namely Operation Friendship. The first chapter from the Study Book was dealt with by Mrs. Philip Steer which was most interesting, "Just- ice Not Charity". A' solo by Ann Hamilton was enjoyed. The closing hymn was "Just as I am without one plea" and prayer was given by Mrs. Lloyd MacDoug- all. Grace was sung and a social half hour enjoyed. Lucknow Presbyterian Church Rev.
