lucknow Co-op Sales Close To $2 Million
Lucknow District Cooperative
picked one of the few good weather
evenings in January to stage their
annual meeting and banquet in the
Lucknow Legion Hall on Tuesday
night of last week. The Hall was
full for the event, and some seeking
tickets bad to be turned down.
Merle Gunby, president of the
board of directors, chaired the
meeting and welcomed the gather-
ing. The singing of 0 Canada was
followed by a toast to the Queen.
Grace was repeated by Doug
Cameron.
A roast beef dinner was served
by members of the St. Helens
Women's Institute and Albert
Taylor extended appreciation. Jack
Alton expressed thanks to Barbara
Cameron who, provided dinner
music.
Austin Martin introduced the
head table guests, Mr. and Mrs.
Harvey Culbert; John Black of
Markdale, a director of zone 5,
U.C.O.; Mr. and Mrs. Albert
Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Dalton,
Mr. and Mrs. Doug Martyn, Mr.
and Mrs. Stewart Luckhart, direct-
or U.C.O.; Don McCorquodale,
manager of Listowel and Belgrave;
Doug Cameron; Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Andrew; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd
Crawford; Mr. and Mrs. Merle

Harvey Culbert introduced the

Childien Baptized
On Sunday
On Sunday, January 30th at 3
p.m. at the Lucknow Anglican
Church, the Rev. G. E. Garratt
baptized the following infants,
Angela Michelle Jardine, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Rick Jardine of
Lucknow and Jason Michael Ken-
neth Schiestel, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Dave Schiestel of Wingham.
Relatives of both families and
sponsors of the babies attended the
baptism at the church and later all
were entertained at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Rick Jardine.

Doug Martyn introduced the
director for zone 2, Stu Luckhart.
Don McCorquodale, manager of
the Belgrave-Listowel Co-op, filling
in for Bruce Chambers, who was
unable to be present, gave , the
financial statement of the Lucknow
Co-op for 1976. -
Gross sales for 1976 were
$1,996,075 as compared to $1,823,-
013 in 1975. The net savings before
patronage returns were $93,002 as
compared with $101,099 in 1975.
A 3% patronage return Was
declared by the board, 1% to be
paid in cash and 2% deferred. A
total of about $50,000 was returned
to, Lucknow.. District Co-op mem-
bers.
A motion by Warren Zinn and
Grant Farrish accepted the finan-
cial statement.
The firm of G. H. Ward was
again hirecU as auditors on motion
of Dirk Logtenberg and J. C.
Drennan.
Co-op staff members,, their wives
and husbands, were introduced
and complimented for their work by
manager Lloyd Crawford. They' are
Mrs. Ray (Ruth) Buckmeier, Larry
Henderson, Gerald Wagner,

Jim was out on the tractor at the
time and she was in conversation
with him.
The Wests notified other CB'ers
in the Lucknow area, Wayne
Jerome, Lloyd Reid and Bob Peck
who tried to determine Terry's
location. Mrs. West 'also contacted
Linda Rathwell in Lucknow to tell
her of Terry's whereabouts. .
Bob Peck made the rescue trip to
pick up Terry on a snowmobile and
it took about 1% hours for the
snowmobile trip out and back. It
wasn't much fun for Bob and Terry
in such weather conditions and it
was about 2.30 a.m. when the men
finally made it home, through
rugged weather.
Terry is very thankful for the CB
radio and certainly for the assist-
ance of the CB owners and Bob
Peck.
George Klages, Jim Mclnally,
Doug Tiffin, Mrs. Sam (Sharon)
Rider, George Cranston, Fred
Ward,, Bill Nelson and Mrs. Glen
(Dorothy) Atkinson who was unable
to be present because of injured'
ribs suffered in a fall on the ice.
Manager Lloyd • Crawford spoke
of planned 'changes at the fertilizer
plant and of the change to metric
pricing. He explained in detail how
the Co-op profits are used in
patronage returns, as well as
explaining member loans and
member equity. •
Bill Andrew, secretary of the
board of directors, read the
minutes of the last annual meeting
and also reported on the U.C.O.
annual meeting attended by Mr.
and Mrs. Lloyd Crawford, Mr.. and
Mrs. Jack Alton, Mr. and Mrs.
Doug Cameron, Mr. and Mrs.
Merle Gunby and Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Andrew.
A resolution was passed chang-
ing the per diem paid directors
from $10 for a half day, $25 for a
full day to $15 for a half day, $30 for
a full day.
Other business included the
amending of the bylaws to conform
with the Co-operative Corporations
Act.
Terry Dalton expressed thanks to
two retiring directors, Bill Andrew
and Jack Alton.
John Black presided for the
election of new directors:
Nominated for the position of
director were Ken Alton, Merle
Gunby, Dirk. Logtenberg, Bob
Irwin, 'Ernie Gibson and Bill Scott.
Ken Alton and Ernie Gibson
withdrew.
Elected as directors were Merle
Gunby, Bob Irwin and Bill Scott.
Scrutineers were Jim Bradley,
Allan Johnson and Stu Luckhart.
Other directors, still with terms
to serve, are vice president Austin
Martin, Doug Martyn, Terry Dal-
ton, Harvey Culbert, Albert Taylor
and Doug Cameron l
Winners of door prizes at the
banquet were Mrs. Charles Wilk-
ins, Mrs. Bill Purdon and Mary
Louise McNeil; Bob Campbell,
Steve Andrew and Leonard McIn-
nes.
Glen Walden was asked to
introduce the new proprietors of his
farm who take over April 1st.
A dance ended the evening to the
music of Boyd's Orchestra.
