First New Years
Baby At Wingham

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs.
Mac Armstrong on the arrival of
their baby daughter, Cynthia
Elaine, in Wingham and District
Hospital on Saturday, January 1st,
1977. She has the honour of being
the first New Years baby at the
Wingham Hospital. Mrs. • Arm-
strong is the former Alma Conn.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. 'Evans went
to London on Friday for christmas
with their, son Eric Evans, Mrs.
Evans and -Way and returned
home on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Durnin
spent several days last week in
London with her sister Mrs.
Cameron Simmons, Mr. Simmons
and other relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Win. Purdon spent
Christmas and holidays with Mt.
and Mrs. Donald Gaunt of Chat-
ham. Mr. and Mrs. Russel Gaunt of
Wingham, Miss Barbara Ann
Purdon of Kitchener visited at the
same home; and Mr. and Mrs.
Dirstein, Richard and Carolyn of
Ajax also spent Christmas at the
Gaunt home, Chatham.
Christmas guests 'with Mr. and
Mrs. Wallace Milligan were Mr.
and Mrs. Pat Donnelly, Angela and
Jill of Streetsville, Mr. and Mrs.
Alan Falconer, Tony and Timmy,
Mr. 'and Mrs. Brian Falconer of
Sarnia, David Hanna of Kinloss,
Cathy and David Craig of Victoria
Harbour, who remained for the
weeks holiday.

Mr. Sandy Fryfogle of Stratford
was a holiday visitor with Mr. and
Mrs' Bev Kay and family.
Miss Bev Bell spent Wednesday
with her friend Clara Milligan.
, Mr. and Mrs. Bev Kay and
family entertained the choir last
Thursday evening.
DIED IN LONDON
This community extends their
sympathy to the relatives of the late
Miss Agnes MacKay, who passed
away in London on Thursday in her
88th year. She will be remembered
by many as she lived for many
years at the store, now owned by
Mr. and Mrs. Helesic, with the late
Mr. and -Mrs. Sandy Purdon and
family. Mrs. 'Purdon and Miss
MacKay were sisters.
BRIDAL SHOWER
Around 60 ladies gathered 'on
Wednesday evening at the decor-
ated Whitechurch Community
Memorial Hill to attend the bridal
shower in honour of. Miss Joan
Tiffin. Mrs. Milian Moore was
master of ceremonies and intro-
duced Miss Tiffin.
Nancy Quipp livened the aud-
ience with her step dancing. Mrs.
Moore gave a reading of Pauline
Johnston's and one of Edgar
Guest's, The Apple Muncher.
Mrs. Evelyn Gibb conducted a
contest.
The gifts were then opened.
Assisting Joan was her sister
Shirley (Mrs. Snowden), Linda and
Cindy Moore and Rhonda Gibson.
Among the many gifts were
blankets, cake plates, fruit bowls,
pillow cases, teapots, pitchers,
vases, plaques, electric iron, elect-
ric tea kettle, cannister set, coffee
pot. Miss Tiffin thanked all for
coming, for their gifts and kindness
in thinking of her. Mrs. Dan Tiffin,
pianist, played and all sang For She
Is A Jolly Good Fellow. The
sponsor then served lunch.
The January Public Relations
meeting of Whitechurch Women's
Institute will be held January 12 at
2 p.m. in Whitechurch Community
Memorial Hall. Hostess Mrs. Fred
Tiffin. Roll call - Bring a guest who
is not a W.I. member and 'introduce
her. Motto - Kindness and
courtesy are the essence of public
relations, Mrs. James McInnes.

Mr. and Mrs. Gordon McInnes of .
Bosinjeaur, Manitoba, have been
guests for three weeks with his
sister Mrs. Chester Casemore, Mr.
Casemore and sister Miss Mae ,
McInnes of Wingham. They also
visited relatives at Goderich,
Ripley, Teeswater and Lucknow
and will be returning to Manitoba
this weekend.

A wedding 'of interest here took
place in Metropolitan United
Church, on Saturday, September
18th in Victoria, British Columbia,
when Ferne- Ann, daughter of Mr..
and Mrs. Thomas Magoffin of
Lucknow and Harold Alexander
Melvin, son of Mrs. Mary Melvin
of Toronto and the, late •Mr. Melvin,
formerly from St. Martins, New
Brunswick, 'exchanged Carriage
vows. The marriage was solemniz-
ed by Rev. Laura Butler who
preceded the matron of honour,
Mrs. Bernice Ennis and best man
Hal Ennis and the bride and groom
to the altar.
The bride was attractive in a
floor-length gown of ivory nylon
crepe, enhanced with an ivory
nylon lace jacket. Her tiered
chapel-length ivory tulle veil was
trimmed with matching lace, held
,by tiny white rosebuds. She
carried a bouquet of green orchids
and white stephanotis. Her only
jewellery• was ivory earrings.
The bride's attendant wore a
TIERNEY
floor length gown of mint green
delustered satin, and she carried a
cascade 6f white roses.
The groom and best man were
attired in black tuxedo suits, white
ruffled: shirts edged in black and
stephanotis boutonniere.
The reception was held at
Holyrood House. Mr. Bob Ennis
proposed a toast to the bride.
Following the reception Mr. and
Mrs. Melvin left on a honeymoon
trip to Calgary and points north.
Special guests included the
bride's daughter Karen, son Den-
nig and daughter-in-law Linda, the
groom's sons Walter , and Wayne
and daughter Corinne. Out-of-town
guests were the' bride's sisters,
Mrs. Lorene Irwin of Oshawa and
Mrs. Yvonne Gray of London and
niece Mrs. Shirley Leadbetter 'of
Vancouver.
