John Jewitt of RR 1, Londesboro, has been acclaimed as the chairman of the Huron County Board of Education for the second year in a row, takingbackthechairhe first won last December. In making the nomination that was quickly approved by the 16-member board at the Inaugural Meeting in Clinton on Monday, trustee Sally Rath well said that Mr. Jewitt had carried out his duties of his past term with “diligence and sincerity’’, despite an often-difficult agenda in the face of rising education costs and declining provincial support. Formerly the trustee for Hullett, Everything, including a five-foot poinsettia tree went Into the shopping cart as Ann Bosman of RR 1, Seaforth hurtled through two Brussels food stores Monday night in the Brussels Merchants’ Shopping Spree. Ann, who was pinch-running for her mother Mary Lowe of Brussels, set a new record grabbing up $307 worth of groceries in just 30 seconds in each of the stores. Also acclaimed for her second term as vice-chairman of the HCBE was Joan Van den Brock of Saltford, the trustee for Colborne and God­ erich Townships. Acclaimed as well to their second terms as committee chairmen were Graeme Craig of RR 1, Walton to Greeters at Londesboro United Church on Sunday were Gerrit and Reino Wilts. The Sunday School presented a Christmas pageant, “The Symbols of Christmas”. The congregation presented their white gifts. The Happy Gang Seniors entertained The Christmas dinner for Londes­ boro Happy Gang Seniors was held at the hall on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 12:30 p.m. President Clara Riley welcomed everyone. Clare Vincent led in prayer. About 70 people sat down to a delicious Christmas dinner. The president thanked Brenda Radford and her helpers for the lovely meal. Guest entertainer was Mr. Peter Snell, music supervisor of Hullett Central School. He played guitar and sang several numbers and a sing song was held. Edythe Beacom thanked Peter for his music. Clara read a poem, “The First Christmas”. Ten tables of euchre were played with these lucky winners: ladies’ high, Hazel Reid; ladies’ lone hands, Laura Lyon; ladies’ low, Marion Snell; men’s high, Lloyd Stewart; men’s lone hands, Lome Hunting; men’s low, Lome Snell. head the board’s Education Com­ mittee; Brian Jeffray of RR 3, Wingham, to head the Management Committee; and Bea Dawson of RR 1, Hensail to head the Personnel Committee. Tony McQuail of RR 1, Lucknow was elected unanimously as Member-at-Large to sit on the HCBE Executive Committee. The meeting was attended by a large crowd of family and friends who came to witness the swearing-in of trustees for the 1988-91 term by Huron County Judge Frank Carter. Many municipal representatives were also on hand to observe the ceremony. second Advent Candle, The Candle of Love, was lit by Darrel Bergsma. The minister and the Senior Youth Group presented a skit on “The Silver Spoons”. The Junior Youth Group will meet atthechurchonThursday, Dec. 8 from 5:30 - 7:30 for a pot luck supper and Christmas party. The Boy’s People Jack and Helen Lee, Audrey and Bob Thompson attended the service at Corunna United Church on Sunday morning. Rev. Stan McDon­ ald, one of the former ministers is minister at this charge. 9 tables at Londesboro euchre There were nine tables of euchre at the Women’s Institute party at the hall on Friday evening, Dec. 2. Ladies’ high was Margaret Tay­ lor; ladies’ lone hand, Margaret Anderson; ladies’ low, Marion Haggitt; men’s high, Roy Krauter; men’s low, Jack Hesselwood; men’s lone hand, Vietta Hoggart, playing as a man. g s Ss Club meets Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Snihurs at 2 p.m. for a Christmas party. An Interdenominational Ser­ vice will be held at Londesboro Church Sunday, Dec. 18 at 8 p.m. Poinsettias on the piano were in memory of Harry Watkins by his wife and family. Next Sunday, Dec. 11 there will be a Christmas pot luck lunch after the service. There will be games and a surprise for the children. Blyth church lights candle The second advent candle was lit at Blyth United Church on Sunday, Dec. 4. The Church was beginning to look like Christmas with evergreens, poinsettias and white mums. Cappy and Zoey Onn played a delightful violin duet. In his conver­ sation with the children Rev. Lorenzo Ramirez talked about gift giving. Connie Bromley was the children’s leader and Frances Bearss was in the nursery. Rev. Ramirez chose as his sermon title, “The redeeming message”, based on Isaiah 40: 1-11 and Luke 2: 1-11. He said that Christmas is the story of God in action.
