Brussels teacher provides music award Margery Huether of RR 3, Walton, a teacher at Brussels Public School, has established a perpetual award to go each year to a Grade 8 student at her school. At the October meeting of the Huron County Board of Education in Clinton on Monday, Director of Education Rob Allen said that Mrs. Huether had deposited $1,000 with the board’s treasurer, the interest on which will be used each year to purchase a small trophy, with the balance of the interest going to the student as a cash award. To qualify for the Margery A. Huether Music Award, the student must be proceeding to further education the following year; and must have demonstrated an inter est in music and enriched the school environment with his or her musical talents. In addition, the award winner must have shown a personal dedication and effort in music both in and out of school. The winner will be selected by the school’s principal, music tea cher and Grade 8 teacher or teachers. The first presentation of the new award will be made next June. Mrs. Huether has been a teacher with the HCBE for the past 22 years, most of them spent at Brussels Public School. She is presently employed as a half-time school resource teacher at BPS. bENJ*N«N'S COMING BRUSSELS UNITED CHURCH King Street MINISTER: REVEREND CHARLES CARPENTIER Sunday, October9,11:00a.m. Thanksgiving Service Gliches in house numbers Family Worship Sunday School Holiday Nursery Care TeachUs, O Lord of the harvest, toshare what we have with the Nations. by Brussels council remedied Brussels council voted Monday night to pay for replacement house numbers for a handful of residents caught in gliches in the system to number all houses in the village. The cost of the replacements will likely be about $20 Donna White, assistant clerk-treasurer told coun cil. In many cases only one of the two or three digits of the numbers on a house will need to be replaced. In some cases people had dupli cates of their neighbours number after errors in the computer printout of the house numbers. The situation brought up a short disagreement between Reeve Gordon Workman and Councillor Ruth Sauve who, along with former councillor Betty Graber, had de- signed the numbering plan. If some numbers were going to be called in, the Reeve suggested, perhaps all numbers should be brought back in and the numbering redone. He said it was confusing to have a house number 157 when there were only two houses on the entire street. Councillor Sauve asked the Reeve why he didn’t do the numbering if he didn’t like the way it was done. The Reeve argued that the system of numbering houses in the first block of a street starting at 100, the second block, 200 and so on was confusing. “That’s the way we drew it up and that’s the way we brought it to council and you approved it,’’ Councillor Sauve said. “I’m sure it was at least three meetings before we got it approved.” Councillor Sauve volunteered to donate the money to pay for the changingofthose numbers that were wrong but Councillor Bruce Hahn made the motion for the village to pick up the tab saying “If that’s all it costs to fix it (the number mix-up) up, let’s do it.” ANGLICAN CHURCH OF CANADA 0CT0BER9/88 PENTECOST20 MORNING PRAYER Rev.
