DONELDA JEAN STILES The Biyth Women’s Institute met on Thursday, Sept. 1 at the home of Brenda Brooks. Ella Carter read two poems, “A Happy Day”, and ‘‘Those good old days.” Brenda Brooks read a poem, ‘‘The passing of the Back house” and read from the Tweeds- muir History of the Biyth Women’s Institute. Biyth Women’s Institute made an autographed Quilt in war time, and sent it to Dr. C.D. On September 1, 1988 Donelda Jean Stiles realized her childhood dream had come true to “Teach Music” as she begins her teaching career for the Dryden Board of Education. Donelda will teach Music, Drama, English, History and Geography to Grades 7 and 8 at Wellington Senior Public School in Sioux Lookout the Gateway to the Ontario Northland. Donelda’s new home will be in Sioux Lookout. Donelda received her Bachelor of Music Arts Degree from the School of Music, University of Windsor, 1987 and her Bachelor of Education Degree from the Faculty of Educa tion University of Windsor 1988. Donelda is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Gordon Stiles, 111 Charles Street, Stratford and the youngest granddaughter of Mrs. Alex Steiss, Brussels. School kids name provinical bird Ten-year old Matthew Conroy of Lively, Ontario has won top honours in a contest which asked children to recommend a provin cial bird. Matthew’s explanation of the loon’s unique attributes eloquent ly expressed the sentiments shar ed by many otherapplicants. Outof 5,195 entries, more than 1000 suggested the loon. Natural Resources Minister Vin cent Kerrio was delighted by the response of the children, and their final choice. “Judging by the interest and effort they put into the contest, it looks like the future of our natural resources is in good hands,” he said. Mr. Kerrio’s parliamentary assistant, Jim McGuigan, will introduce a private member’s bill that will ask th.e legislature to designate the common loon the province’s official bird when the House reconvenes in the fall.
