Food Minister Jack Riddell an
nounced recently.
“We’re making these interim
payments before the end of the
year to help ease the financial
pressuregrowersarefacing be
cause of depressed commodity
prices,” said Riddell. ‘‘Rather
than wait to give a lump sum near
the end of the year, we wanted to
give them some needed financial
support now.”
This payment will be based on
the number of tonnes a producer
registered for 1987 and cheques
will begin to flow by the end of
August.
Producers will be paid for 60 per
cent of their registered tonnes,
using a payment per tonne of S3.68
for corn, seed corn, barley and
oats, S16forwhite beans and $8.96
for canola. Any required adjust
ments will be made on the final
payment, which will be based on
sales.
Producers growing several com
modities will receive one payment
cheque this year, rather than
separate cheques for each com
modity. Only producers registered
in the 1987 Grain Plan offered by
the Farm Income Stabilization
Commission are eligible for pay

Bravery,” and ‘‘The Ontario
Medal for Good Citizenship” pay
tribute to individuals who distin
