A wards recognize outstanding people Several young folk of the community are back to college: Richard Love to Georgian College, Barrie; Craig Hackwell to Fan­ shawe, London; Sandra Sholdice to Humber College, Toronto; John Huether to Guelph University. Public school and high schools will all be a lively spot this Tuesday when it's back to school following the summer break. Murray Sholdice, London, spent the weekend at his home here. The U.C.W. will start their meetings for next season with both units together, Sept. 14. The executive will plan coming events this Tuesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Craig attended the funeral of Harvey’s brother Edwin Craig in Ottawa, August 23. (Sorry their names had been omitted in last week’s issue). Holiday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Courts were Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Wade, Livermore, Cali­ fornia; Mrs. Marie Burgess, Cal­ lander Nursing Home, Brussels; Bob and Connie Cook, Missis­ sauga, and Symond Cook, Sidcup, England. Mr. and Mrs. Wade and Mrs. Burgess also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Bennett. Mr. and Mrs. Allan McCall and Mrs. Bev Stephenson, Ron and Chris attended the Canadian Na­ tional Exhibition in Toronto on Ontario gives $7 million interim grain payment Ontario farmers will receive approximately S7 million in interim payments forgrain through the 1987-88 stabilization program of the Farm Income Stabilization Commission, Agriculture and Food Minister Jack Riddell an­ nounced recently. “We’re making these interim payments before the end of the year to help ease the financial pressuregrowersarefacing be­ cause of depressed commodity prices,” said Riddell. ‘‘Rather than wait to give a lump sum near the end of the year, we wanted to give them some needed financial support now.” This payment will be based on the number of tonnes a producer registered for 1987 and cheques will begin to flow by the end of August. Producers will be paid for 60 per cent of their registered tonnes, using a payment per tonne of S3.68 for corn, seed corn, barley and oats, S16forwhite beans and $8.96 for canola. Any required adjust­ ments will be made on the final payment, which will be based on sales. Producers growing several com­ modities will receive one payment cheque this year, rather than separate cheques for each com­ modity. Only producers registered in the 1987 Grain Plan offered by the Farm Income Stabilization Commission are eligible for pay­ ment. Advertising is a guide to fashion. Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Brown, Joanne and Aarron of Ingleside arrived Saturday evening and spent the rest of the holiday weekend at the McCall home returning home on Labour Day, Monday.
