She is in her second year at Seneca College in Toronto, where she is taking visual merchandising. Michelle’s hobbies are art and jewellery design. ANGELA IN ETHER Y Angela has just graduated as an executive secretary from Wester­ velt Business School, and hopes to find a position in her home area. Now 19 years old, Angela was the Huron County Dairy Princess in 1986-87, and is the daughter of Alex and Jean Nethery of RR 4, Brussels. She is sponsored by Brussels Auto Sales and Service. JEAN LOCKING The daughter of Robert and Jennet Locking of RR 3, Brussels, Jean, 17, is a Grade 13 student at Listowel District Secondary School. She has worked on the family farm mostof her life, and plans to go to college or university in 1989. Jean is sponsored by the Cranbrook Women’s Institute. CORINNA STEPHENSON Corinna is 17 years of age, and is the daughter of Fred and Sharon Stephenson of Brussels. She is a Grade 12studentatF.E. Madill Secondary School, and hopes to attend university to pursue a career in law. Corinna worked as an Avon manager in the Brussels area over the summer, and is sponsored by Todd’s Bakery. APRIL TEN PAS Eighteen-year-old Judy is a Grade 13 student at F.E. Madill Secondary School, and hopes to go to university next year. She has worked as a lifeguard at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Pool for the past two summers, and is sponsored by the BMG Recreation Committee. Judy is the daughter of Mary and the late Albert Ten Pas of Brussels. Brussels Queen of the Fair to be chosen Saturday The daughter of Ben and Chris Ten Pas of Brussels, 17-year-old April is well known as a smiling cashierat the Brussels EMA store, where she works part-time. She is a grade 12 student at F.E. Madill Secondary School, and hopes to pursue a career in business. April is sponsored by the Majestic Women's Institute. Mr. and Mrs. W. Goulding, Strathroy, visited for a day with the McCutcheons. Mrs. Goulding is Jack’s sister. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ebel of Ingersoll visited with the McCut­ cheons and other friends for a couple of days on the weekend. KAREN MONTGOMERY Returning to her final year at F.E. Madill Secondary School, 18-year-old Karen’s future plans include the study of both business and geography at Sir Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo. She is well-known in the area, having worked at Stainton’s Hard­ ware in Wingham over the past summer. Karen’s parents are Glenn and Arlyn Montgomery of RR 1, Belgrave, and she is sponsored by The Citizen. Heritage Fair at park Step right up Folks! The third annual Fall Fairand Penny Carnival will be held at Doon Heritage Crossroads on Sunday, September 11, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. The Fall Fair was (and still is) a traditional celebration in rural communities. Fairs began in the 19th century as agricultural exhibi­ tions promoting agricultural edu­ cation and farm improvement. Autumn is definitely here, and with it one of the most pleasant rituals of the season - the choosing of the Brussels Queen of the Fair. Seven young women are com­ peting for the title this year, a turnout that has pleased the committee in charge of the event after the 1987 contest attracted only four competitors, although they were all top contenders for the position, which was ultimately capturedby Karla King of Brus­ sels. The 1988-89 Miss Brussels Fall Fair will be chosen at the Queen of Last contest winner named Mrs. Emma McKay of Wingham is the winner of the final “Big Value” contest for the year. Mrs. McKay wins a $20 gift certificate from Just For You for having her winning entry drawn. She spotted the “Big Value” logo in the Stewart Pharmacy advertise- ment on page 6 of last week’s newspaper. Dave Williams, advertising manager ofThe Citizen said the response to the contest over the last three months has been out­ standing with thousands of en­ tries. He wished to extend his thanks to all the local merchants who took part providing prizes in the draw. the Fair Competition dinner and dance at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre this Saturday, September 10, with the crowning to take place at about 10 p.m. Earlier in the day each contestant will be interviewed by the contest judges, and each will give a two-minute speech follow­ ing the dinner, which is by invitation only. Up to 20 points out of a possible 100 will be awarded for the interview, the speech, and the overall appearance of the candi­ date, while a maximum of 40 points will be awarded for poise and personality.
