Brussels People Compiled by Marilyn Higgins Call887-9089 Esther McCutcheon and Betty Gowing have returned from an enjoyable holiday with their sister Winnie Conaboy and son Sean of Cochrane, Alberta and Mr. and Mrs. Angus Gowing and Chuck and Delores Workman of Calgary. They also visited cousins in Regina, Sask. Thelma and Peter Roberts of Ottawa visited with her mother, Betty Gowing over the weekend and also had a reunion with her brother and sisters at Dave and Lvnda Gowing’s cottage at Point Clark. Mary and Murray Huether attended the christening of Fiona Lillian, daughter of Bruce and Maggie McDonald in Mildmay United Church and later the reunion and dinner at their farm near Mildmay on August 14. Joyce, Jonathon and Sarah Tipple, Burlington, have recently holidayed with her parents in Brussels and with Brian, Dianne, Sandra and Sheri Huether at a cottage near Point Clarke. Guests with Mrs. Glenna Steph­ ens at her cottage at Red Bay on Lake Huron were Dr. Regis and IsobelPelloux, Boston; Mrs. Doro­ thy Higgins from Toronto; Tom and Yutta Higgins, Toronto; Dr. Jim and Bette Stephens, Kitchener and Gregory; Dr. Russ and Dr. Ruth Stephenson, London; Richard and Louise Stephens Burgess from Oxford, England where they are finishing their fourthyearatGraduate Univer­ sity. Mr. and Mrs. Don Edgar of RR 1, Allenford, visited with Mrs. Jean Higgins on Wednesday and also visited with Mary’s father in hospital. Mrs. Winnifred Edgar of Maple Villa and Mr. Jim Edgar of Listowel returned home with them for a few days holiday. On Friday Ann Ward of St. Mary’s visited at the same home. Mr. and Mrs. John Oliver and David of RR 1, Clifford visited on the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Jack Higgins, Mrs. Jean Higgins, Mrs. Lila Goll and Alvie Higgins in Listowel Hospital. We would like to welcome Hugh Hanly to our William St. E. neighbourhood. Hugh has moved into the home formerly owned by Bob and Laura Bridge. The Bridges have moved into the former Cooper home. Bowlers win Yuill Trophy On Monday, Aug. 22, 16 ladies bowled for the Jack Yuill Trophy and 12 men bowled for the Jim Mair Trophy at the Brussels Lawn Bowling Club. Big Value contest Mary Yuill presented the troph­ ies to Doris Michie and Dorothy McDonald. Coming second was Laura John­ ston and Mabel Wheeler; third, has 2 more weeks - Gary Walden Photo Pat Moran of Bluevale is the winner this week of the Big Value draw in The Citizen. Pat found the Big Value symbol in the advertisement for Rice’s Store, filled in the ballot and entered the draw. For winning Pat will receive a free chassis lubrica­ tion, oil change and filter replace­ ment from Dickson’s Auto Repair in Blyth. Since the editor got forgetful as deadlines pressed in last week, many people called curious to know the name of last week’s winner that never made it to the paper. The Brussels Fall Fair is current­ ly seeking candidates for the title of 1988-89 Brussels Fair Queen, with nominations closing on September 1. Joan Bernard, one of the organizers of the event, says that competitors must be between the ages of 17 and 23, and that competition will be limited to the first 12 contestants; she adds that as of Monday, six girls had already thrown their hats into the ring. The Brussels Fair Queen will be crowned at the Fair Queen Dance on September 10, and will rule over the Brussels Fall Fair on Septem­ ber 20-21. Bonnie Lamble. Ruthann is the daughter of Ron and Kay Mclntoshof Brucefield and Darryl is the son of Barrie and Karen Hoegy of RR 1, Walton. Marie McGavin was the soloist and Marion Godkin was the organist. Matron of honor was Bonnie Vandenberk and bridesmaids were Donna Pickard and Denise Brand. Flowergirl was Stephanie Pri- meau. All are friends of the bride. Best man was Dave Vandeberk and ushers were Rick Grillmeyer and Darryl Smith. Ringbearer was Jeffrey Boon. All are friends of the groom. Following the reception at the Seaforth and District Community Centres, the couple honeymooned in Honey Harbor, Georgian Bay. They now reside in Newmarket.
